Any 'testing' that showed that the interior RVQucikShades provided 'better results' than exterior shades of similar density was flawed either in its proceedure or the intrepetation of the results. Measurement of air temp 18" from the shade, DOES NOT measure the change in heat conducted through the windshield. The shields are used to lower the heat load from solar. Outside shades are far more effective at this. The only way to measure the difference is to have two identical motorhomes, with only the shades as different and NO AC or VENTILATION in use. Then measure the rate of temperature rise in the interior space of the MH over time. The larger heat load will raise the temp faster.

Again, any heat blocked by interior shades IS ALREADY INSIDE the motorhome and must be removed by the AC system. Heat blocked by outside shades is never allowed entry to the motorhome so does not need to be removed by the ac system.

This is why ALL solar shades for B&M buildings are applied outside the glass, either as shutters or screens. Blinds and interior shades are no where near as effective.

This thread is getting way to technical for me. All I know is that I installed my own that are similar to RV Quick shades . I did the whole coach for $120.00. That's all 10 windows. During our trip this summer traveling around the entire lower part of Texas ( heat index over 110 every day ), we stayed very comfortable. Plus I leave them on all the time with the exception of the windshield when driving.
They stay clean, dry and mildew free.

My two cents.

jcthorne, you may be or may not be correct. Doesn't really matter to me, we purchased the rvsunshades more for privacy than heat control. Any bennifit we get from heat control & UV control is a plus. Although I totally understand your theory. Send me a set of exterior shades & I will test it for you.
