Won't start

I can't get my 1980 Mini Whinnie to start. It has a new battery, starter and solenoid. It still makes a clicking sound. What else could it be. Still does it in neutral as well. Any suggestions

I second "check the ground cable. I would also make sure that the positive and negative cables onto the battery are clean and tight.

Test the voltage while a helper holds the key to start. Battery is easiest, at the starter will tell you more, if voltage at the battery cable on the solenoid to the starter body is good, then you need to check the small wire on the solenoid, and the big connector going into the starter body.

New battery? As in how new? Clicking is normally a sign of a weak battery. If right off the shelf and it's the first time trying to start it may need a charge if it was sitting on the shelf for months. What's the manufacture date stamped on the battery? If flooded AGMs ensure they're properly serviced/filled (use distilled water only and don't overfill).

Good luck

There is often a START RELAY/ CUBE STYLE PLUGIN if lucky on a fuse/ relay board? Others, like my Nissan, are wheel well mounted under hood. These are often tied to a manual clutch switch, or Neutral/ park Switch on automatics and control IGN/ START power to the Start Solenoid. HOPE THIS HELPS.
