No I didn't. I treated it as a one time issue, and didn't feel that it rated a possibly negative against the whole park.

I’d appreciate any opinion on this.

If you arrive at an RV park with no reservations, you risk the potential of their not being able to accommodate you.

However if you reserve ahead of time, or just call a few hours out, generally no problem.

One good idea, if your travel plan will allow this is to plan on finishing the days travel around 3:00 pm or so. That way if there IS an issue, you can have plenty of time to find another suitable park before it gets dark.

Best wishes in your search for your RV!

Like the others, this is not something to worry about. We have been RVing in a variety of rigs for more than 30 years. There are definitely fewer spots available for big rigs, but that is because many campgrounds were designed and built in the days of smaller units. You can find something pretty much any time as long as it is not prime season in a popular tourist area. Kind of like hotel rooms actually. We like to dry camp when we can, and we bought a unit with big tanks for that reason, DH just added 900watts of solar to our six battery set up, so we should be good to go. Particularly if you want the western states, you will be fine.

(Reminds me of) the story I read recently of the lady demanding boon-dockers put out their fire and leave the (National) park; turned out to be crazy neighbor resident that the rangers and local police were very familiar with, and the RV/Bdockers were in the right and doing everything OK.

Thanks folks! That makes me feel better. It makes sense to consider an RV Park like a hotel reservation.

We’re going to look at our first class A’s next week, we’re both excited.

Similar story. Booked a stay at Mountain Home RV Park in Idaho. Specifically requested two sites next to each other as we were travelling with friends. Asked if they had any tandem sites where we could face each other, and they did! We booked this in March for a stay in August.

Upon arriving, they gave us our sites and we were next to each other, but not facing. The spot on the other side of us was empty and was the tandem site. Thinking it was a simple mistake we went to the office and immediately got attitude that 'we assign you the spots you paid for' and that the other site was reserved by someone else. We asked when the other site was reserved and they refused to tell us. After pushing the issue and telling them we booked the tandem site back in March, they then tried to claim that we wouldn't be able to fit into the tandem spot. When we asked if we could try and if it didn't work we would be glad to relocate, they told us absolutely not because of liability issues.

I asked to talk to a supervisor or manager (mind you I was really nice this whole time) and the lady said 'no she is just going to tell you the same thing that I did' and left it at that. I had at her and told her off about her attitude and poor customer service and left pissed. I got to my site, and there was a guy riding around in a golf cart who worked there, and he came to check on how we were doing as we weren't even hooked up. We explained all of this to him and he looked puzzled, went to the office, came back with a new lady (the manager) who had no issue with us trying the tandem spot (guess what, no issues at all) and then told us that the mix up was that the computer got the sites wrong and the policy for the employees is not to move anyone without manager approval.

Would be even better as an EX lackey looking for a job!

Some people just seem to spend more time AVOIDING doing their job than they would take to DO their job. Kind of a "I said so, and you have to do what I say, even though it is REALLY stupid!"

Had a similar situation years ago - we were wagonmasters for a club outing and the campground asked for a list of attendees, with rig lengths so they could assign spots. We got to the campground and they had assigned a 75 foot pull-through spot to a member with a 24 foot Class B, and a 28 foot back-in spot to a member with a 31 foot trailer, towed with a Suburban. We went to the office to ask if we could swap the spots and were read the riot act - once the data is in the computer it's impossible to change it without knocking the Earth out of its orbit. We swapped them anyway and decided our club would not return to that park again.

HI I think several folks have touched on the real issue and that seems to be you will run across these types of people no matter what or where. I too have had the strange" knock to move" and the "well we all come here this time of year and stay in the same spot" thing. Rudeness abounds but should not be condoned. I have moved out and stopped to help guide them in and start to help with hook up and the honey gets very sweet and sticky :}

Something similar happened to us at a Florida KOA. We arrived to the KOA around 3 pm,checked in and found that a small Class B was in our reserved site. We had reserved a pull thru site for our 35 ft RV. Nobody was in the Class B, but he answered the phone when management called him. He said he was at the local casino in a high stakes poker tournament and refused to move his RV. He had forgotten that morning to check with management about staying another night. Management was very helpful and moved us to a back in site. They went above and beyond in having to remove furniture and a flagpole across from the site in order for us to back in. My bumper was inches from their office wall, but we made it. Barely. It happened to be the only empty site left.

Turns out they were all rented Saturday, and the office and atv rental wasnt open on Sunday. They said they had openings for the rentals on Monday. We agree to stay until Tuesday so we could go out on the bikes Monday. They direct us to our site, and all is well until Sunday afternoon. This rv pulls in, and declares we are in his spot he reserved a month prior. Since no one was manning the office on Sunday, their was no one to resolve the issue. We politely told him we had been there since Friday, and were staying until Tuesday, and had no intention of moving. We suggested he just pick another open site. He whined and complained, but eventually gave up and chose another site. He was only staying the one night. He left early Monday before the bike rentals were available. When we went up to get our side by side, a different person than the one who booked us in started giving us trouble for being in the wrong site. He said the other rv was a regular customer, and he had to give him the night for free. He was told we threatened the fellow, and we very rude. None of this was true at all. We said the girl who was in the office Friday gave us the site until Tuesday. He replied that she didnt know what she was doing, and shouldnt have gave us that site. I said maybe someone should be working on Sunday, and then someone would have been here to resolve the issue. We did nothing wrong. We rented the bike, and left the next day with mixed feelings about the unorganized state of this campground. We were basically called bullies, and had a strip tore off us for doing nothing wrong. Probably wont return to this campground.
I would have stayed, since you had paid for those nights, but I wouldn't have rented anything else from them, why pay them more money when they treated you that way. Their employee giving out wrongs spaces, is not your fault, it is theirs. Just my opinion.

I arrived at the Louisville SRA near Omaha and there was a walk up site, no. 11, available. I paid for a week and proceeded to the dump station, then the site. There was a squatter in the space - plugged in but all the windows had closed curtains. I called the office, they sent someone over, and the squatter moved out. I backed in. The squatter took the space directly in front of me - approached and said it was ok, there was better shade in their new spot, and would I be so kind as to tell them about my Class A diesel pusher. I went over some basics and all seemed friendly. We spoke a few more times but the morning they left there was a note taped to my tire ranting about karma, that I should have "just kept going" when I saw them in the site, and some rather colorful language describing me which I will spare you of. They knew full well that by not putting money in an envelope when they arrived after hours meant they were trying to pull off a free night in the park. Great spot too - right next to the Platte River.
