06 CR-V roof rack crossbar removal

I don't know where else to find the answer to this question. I have an 06 CR-V with factory roof crossbars. I use a roof mounted bike rack on the cross bars and everything was hunky dorey until we unhooked at my son's house and my wife "tried" to drive it under his carport. Result: bike rack destroyed(only 2 wks old), bike OK.

But, when I removed the damaged rack and drove the 40 mi. up the freeway to get another one the front cross bar rattles at freeway speeds; so in the stress of the crunch, something became loose. I lifted the rubber surround on the mounts and there is a 10MM bolt which I loossend but did not remove as I wasn't sure how the crossbar came out of the mounting and I needed it for the rest of the trip, so I did not proceed any further and get my self in a "no can fix" situation and have the crossbar in my hand with no place to carry my bike.

My question to you CR-V owners, does anyone know how to remove the crossbars so I can take the ends off and see where I need to fix it? I think my 06 is identical to 04-05 years.
