Question 1999 BMW Z3 Roadster Baseplate

Hello Everyone,

I have a 3-Pipe problem and need a solution. My partner and I recently purchased a 1991 Pace Arrow Motorhome and then traveled down from Anchorage, Alaska.

We have a born-again appreciation for toads now and today I purchased a 1999 BWM Z3 Roadster... it's one of my dream cars.

SO... I am prepared to buy and use a tow dolly, but I really want to set this girl up to flat-tow.

I have scoured the internet looking for towing base plates, no dice. I used to be a hell of a welder and am considering fabricating a set of my own. However, I would prefer to purchase a set.

Anyone out there knows someone that will fab a pair? Anyone out there that has fabbed a pair and still has the plans? Any help is appreciated.

I would contact the e-trailer team on line and check with them, Blue Ox or one of the tow bar manufactures. You never know what is laying around waiting to be sold.

I would also look into a tow guard system. Your prize BMW will look like mincemeat after a few thousand miles of towing.

I towed my pickup 10,000 miles this year and am in the process of replacing parts of the front bumper.

There is no such car as a BWM, but many BMW's have been made.

Remco says the only way to tow a 99 Z3 is on a trailer.
With that said no one makes a base plate for one.

You might be able to tow it 4 down if you make your own base plate. Take the driveshaft off when towing.

Or maybe you can get this company make a disconnect for it.

It may well be that there simply isn't anything under the front fascia of that Z3 to attach base plates to. A substantial forward extension of the frame is needed to have a strong and rigid place to mount the plates. And with only about 2000 1999 Z3's made, there isn't much market for towing base plates either.

With low road clearance front & rear, I suspect that dolly towing could be problematic too.

Put that sweetheart on a full trailer!
