2002 TDi VW Beetle & Roadmaster

Hi have looked at a few threads on to tow or not to tow a beetle. And it would seem that yes you can, but my question is related to Roadmaster towing. I have all the Roadmaster towing stuff (all terrain tow bar, rock shield and even brake) so please don't want this to be a this manufacturer is better than that one. We all have are opinions and are entitled to them. I happen to have the Roadmaster stuff for no other reason than it all came along 2nd hand at the right price.

So back to my question(s)

The Roadmaster brackets (521225-1) talks about type s and non type s, I have a tdi so non type s, wondering what a PITA it was to mount the brackets as it would appear you have to remove the front clip. Wanted to hear from someone who has done the job.

Second question, where on earth did you mount the breakaway for brake system?

Thanks in advance. I know this is very specific information I am looking for so don’t expect a deluge of replies but someone out there must be owing a beetle 1998-2003 and did the work themselves.

Thanks again

I was curious about this question, so I asked my neighbor, who has been a VW Dealer for abpout 25 years. He suggested that you talk to youir VW dealer/mechanic for advice. He knows that hios dealership did, in fact, install towing equipment on a beetle a few years ago. Just wanted to remind you that is needs to be a standard transmission to tow 4 down. I know this is not what you were looking for, but at least its a start. Good luck!!
