2003 Honda Civic flat towing

Hello all and Happy New Year!
I am looking at a cheap, but great condition 2003 Honda Civic 5 speed to use as my possible toad vehicle. I cant seem to locate any information if this is ok to do. Owners manual states you can under the emergency section, but doesnt state for extended trips. I was under the impression all manual trans cars would be ok. If anybody has any info on this subject I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you

According to this Wanderlodge Towable Guide for 2003: "Honda vehicles still advise against towing at more than 35 mph or for more than 50 miles. However, Honda officials note that this recommendation exists primarily because the company has not conducted formal towing tests of its cars at higher speeds or for greater distances. Honda officials have indicated that they are not aware of any problems caused by towing a Honda automobile with either manual or automatic transmission, as long as proper towing preparations are made and the vehicle is towed at legal highway speeds. Instructions for towing are available in the Owner Line section of Honda’s Web site — www.honda.com — and should be available from a Honda dealer or by calling Honda customer service at (800) 999-1009."

Motorhome Magazine puts out a guide each year. For 2003, Honda Civic is NOT listed.

I guess you can check the Honda website or call the phone number listed to see if they have further information.

I tow a 2002 Honda Civic manual & later changed to a 2006 Honda Civic Auto. Both did just fine! I now tow a 2010 C-RV. The C-RV is the better choice! More comfortable than the Civicís! I would look for a used C-RV. But in 2015 the C-RV changed to the CVT tranny and is no longer towed flat! You should be able to find a 08 to 11 fairly inexpensive. Good luck with your choice!
