I want to buy a 2007 jeep liberty to use as a tow car. Was all set to buy when the salesman asked which transmission I wanted. Need some help fellows, what do you recommend the type that electronically switches from 2 wheel to 4 wheel when the computer senses it is needed or the traditional jeep kind where you manually switch when you want to. I am lost for the answer hope someone else can help.

You want the tranny that will allow you to tow four down (if that's the way you want to tow). Look in the owner's manual under "Recreational Towing" and it will tell you what you need to do in order to tow and how to tow. Read it for yourself, don't rely on the sales person.
My Grand Cherokee is 4wd (all the time) Quadra-Trac. Can be towed 4 down.

Bill,
The 2007 guide to Dinghy Towing only lists the Liberty Sport 4WD (without any exclusions)as towable 4 down. Having previously towed an 05 Liberty Limited, I'd be surprised if the other Liberty models were not towable. HOWEVER, there are exclusions for the Commander and Grand Cherokee so as Lorna said verify for yourself by reading the owner's manual for the specific model you want.

We have an 2006 Jeep Liberty Diesel that we used to tow for 1 month. It's a great car, lots of pep and set up to tow. I has less that 4K miles, both carpet and mud floor mats and a Jeep bra.
We've decided not to tow a car and would make you a GREAT deal if you are interested. You can email me at rbloom0105@bellsouth.net or call at 561-670-8676 to discuss if interested.
Thanks
Raphael

The Liberty is available with either command trac of selec trac. Both are towable. They are transfer cases not transmissions. Selec-trac is the more sophisticated; you can drive it in 4 wheel drive all the time.
As long as it's not a 2x4 the Liberty is towable.

We just purchased a 2007 Jeep Liberty with the selec-trac. According to the owners manual the transfer case is put in the neutral position and its good to go. All we need now is our class A to pull it with.Good luck.

I have had a 2002 & now have a 2006 Liberty and have auto trans w/ 4wd. I place the transfer case in netural and the transmission in Park. The 06 has been dragged 4 down for over 12,000 miles and have additional 11,000 miles that I have driven it.
As far as which transfer case to get, need to look at how much you want 4WD. which is good for pulling out of dirt, snow, etc. but not much better for normal driving. I have daughter and son in snow covered Michigan and I got the manual transfer case, so I can use 4 WD when needed there. Rest of time its in 2WD.
