2007 Mini Cooper Sport Manual flat tow or dolly.

Hi,

A colleage at work is selling this.

Would I better off flat or dolly towing?

We are not full timers so may tow it 10-12 times a year.

Well,
I just cruised the '07 Dinghy Towing Guide and, I didn't see ANY Coopers on the list at all. I'm not an expert on those so, I cannot verify that they are OR, are not flat towable. So, you'll have to do your homework on this particular vehicle to see if it's flat towable. Everyone's got an opinion on flat towing, dolly towing or, fully loaded on a trailer type towing. The wife and I look at as, making things as simple as possible, with the least amount of effort needed to accomplish a goal.

And that is, FLAT TOW anything than can be. No trailers or dollies to deal with either at home or, while traveling and setting up camp in campgrounds across America and not try and find a place to hide them in all the campgrounds. To some, it's no big deal. To us, we'd rather not deal with it. So, if you find that the Mini is not flat towable, well, you'll have to make the decision for plan B.

Do a search on Mini Cooper in this forum. You will see a lot of folks towing Miniís with manual transmission.

I was looking for one before I decided it would not work for my everyday car.

Just because a car is not in the ďguidesĒ doesnt mean itís not towable, just that the manufacturer will not ďendorseĒ towing. You will find lots of cars towed that are not on the list. The best source is if Blue Ox or Roadmaster make a baseplate for a particular car. If no baseplate, then no demand.

Google Remco towing website. Query Mini. It will tell you the towing requirements and applicable baseplate and light kits for a Mini..

Pretty simple answer,
WHY in the world would anyone want to dolly tow something when you can flat tow it?

I would dolly tow. I know someone who towed a manual transmission mini on a dolly to protect it because the car is so low.

I dolly tow my Mini, but its an automatic. You will find on various forums that many people with manual transmission Miniís flat tow. A couple of things to consisted - a dolly will cost considerably less than setting up for a flat tow, and the low Mini is more liable to pick up rocks. In dolly towing our Mini, we have yet to see any rock damage. So far we havenít had any problems finding a spot in a campsite to stash the dolly, and usually it goes beneath the coach
