2012 Ford Edge Toad

Greetings;

New to me Ford Edge V-6. One big fat question:

Owners manual says prior to towing, run engine 5 minutes, shift to DRiVE, NEUTRAL, REVERSE back to NEUTRAL and then shut engine off. Last gear before shifting to N is reverse.

On the 2 previous Toads I have experienced - hitting reverse before shut down was an absolute no no.
In fact the Honda instructions said that if you accidentally went to reverse START OVER.

Does anyone here tow the 2012 Ford Edge? Can you tell me what YOU do? There are multiple threads about burned up transmissions. So I really want to follow the book to the letter. Problem is.... The book may be wrong?

Don't know the proper procedure but...

Funny you should ask. Our friends and us were just talking about this a few hours ago. They used to have an Edge and it was such a problem and hassle they just dumped it and bought a Jeep.

I have a 2018 Edge, V6, 6 speed tranny which i tow. The procedure is the same D-N-R-N. I've towed it a couple of thousand miles without a problem.
