Wyorancher sorry for not getting back sooner been out of town. I have a 2012 Wrangler I plug the Patriot into the accessory port inside the center console it has power all the time. If you buy the Patriot make sure it has the upgraded software package mine is 4 years old and I need to send it in and get an up grade for $110. What is happening is when towing while going over sharp dips in the road or expansion joints on over passes the Patriot momentarily applies the breaks to the toad. This causes the break lights to activate on the toad causing confusion to those following me. VERY annoying going through a large city with several overpasses.

Thanks for info. I couldn't find that power point in the console because I didn't know there were two compartments and two doors. Finally got it figured out. My base plate & tow bar come this week. Hope to have warm wx to install. Sent email to blue ox to find out about upgrade to patriot. Haven't ordered patriot yet.

wyorancher just got off the phone with Blue Ox. MY Patriot is the old model so I had them send me a new owners manual. I didn't remember getting one with my unit so they sent me one so I can set it up, very helpful folks at Blue Ox. I don't think you will have a problem with the new model. They are worth the money, I had to make a stand on the breaks panic stop from 55mph and it worked flaw-lessee I was so glad I had the Patriot that time. The only thing I had to do was stop and clean my shorts!

I was getting really tough on questions to Blue Ox about software upgrades. When they charge $1000 for a braking system I wanted to make sure the system had the bugs out. Seems like the Patriot system requires a lot less power to operate than other brands. I think the Patriot will be my choice. I like the idea of having some control in the MH. I have a little concern about interference with rf signal but they say that rf unit is not required for operation.
