2013 Honda CR-V EX-L

Hello all, we lost out 2008 honda CR-V to an accident. I am looking extensively for a replacement even thought our MH is asleep for 6 months but don't want to pass up on a opportunity. found a 2013 EL-L with 90,000 for 14 which i am sure i can get him down or i will keep looking. My question is does any one have experience with this year and issues? I tested a 2012 with low miles as well but heard a tapping in the valve cover (used the old school screw driver to the ear diagnosis). did not hear is when driving or when the RPM's were up and they were trying to get 16. Any info or experience would be greatly appreciated.
Tim and Sherri and of course the pups!

I have a 14 also and it has been a great car. Same engine as the 13.

I've also got a 2014. The only issue I have is the VTC actuator engine rattle upon cold start up. Happens most often when temps are below 50. I really need to get it replaced. Other than that, it's a great SUV that tows like a dream.

I have had a 2013 CRV for about 7 years and only paid 16K for it then with 25,000 miles. (two year old model and a prior lease) Put a base plate on it to tow about 4 years ago. I have it serviced every 5,000 miles and so far it has been flawless. It now has about 90,000 miles and is very easy to tow. It's only jobs are running around on short trips to the store and being a toad.

Eventually I would like to get a wrangler or Older Tacoma 4x4 for the off road capability but the CRV has been great as a toad and navigating tight areas.

Same here. This is our second CRV toad and they are great. The valve tap may just need adjustment.

I bought a 2013 CR-V earlier this year just for towing. Impossible to get a rental car now days. Good luck trying to negotiate price; it's a sellers market! Installed the tow package myself. That was quite a job, even with eTrailers' videos. PM me for specifics.
Wish I could have gotten the CR-V model with a larger back-up camera screen.
There are Honda Technical Service Bulletins on the VTC issue, but no recall

My (new) Honda dealer suggests waiting until I need to replace the timing belt.

Buy it! If no history get the valves adjusted and transmission fluid changed. 14 was the last year with the real transmission which is towable. I have a 04 which is basically the same with 297k on it and it still books for &5000. 90K on a CR-V is just getting started.

That's what we are towing.

Transmission shudder is something to look for. Drive it on a level road with very light throttle and just around 20mph, if it has the issue, you'll feel a vibration that feels like you are driving over washboard. By holding the throttle just right you can extend the shudder. Giving it more or less throttle will make it stop. It's not an uncommon issue with the CRVs. We test drove 4 of them when we were shopping for our toad and three out of four shuddered. We bought the one that didn't, and it later developed the problem. There's a service bulletin on it that is a reprogramming of the torque converter lock-up and a fluid change. We had the recommended service and it cured it for about a year, and it has returned although not as bad. Do a search for Honda CRV shudder and you'll see quite a few references to it.

Our CRV had 80K+ and tows great.

We have a 2013 Honda CRV AWD EX-L with 69,000 miles. Not a single problem in 8 years! They're hard to kill if you keep them serviced!
