2017 Sienna Dolly Towed
Hi
I'm a pre-newbie. I don't even have an RV. For the past 6 months, I've been researching about RV reading as much as I can. I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice. There is a local 2007 35J ITASCA SUNOVA that I am interested in. Would you dolly towed a 2017 Sienna FWD with it? The Sienna is about 4700lbs. It seems all the gas class a that I've come across have a 5000lb towing capacity. I'm shying away from the diesel pusher due to cost. Thank you.

What can I Pull
We have a 2006 ITASCA SUNOVA 29R FORD FRAME & V10 ENGINE. Are Toad is a 2011 Chevy Malibu, that it tows very well. Have not weighted the Malibu yet, but GVWR on car is 4410 lbs. Get the information off the coach your looking at & what the car needs to be towed. With that you should be OK. Depending on the weight of the car & your states rules, you may have to us a tow dolly or have a braking system installed in the car. You can find a lot of good information on this web site. A Sunova 35 is the largest version of that model, I’m actually in the market for a Sightseer/Sunova and have done a fair bit of research on them, it has a dry weight of approx 17,000lbs, a GCWR of 26,000lbs, and a towing capacity of 5000lbs. My AWD Sienna weighs a little under 4700lbs, your FWD model will come in at a little less than that (I’m assuming it’s a FWD model, please don’t try and tow an AWD Sienna on a dolly). A little above 4500. Plus 500 lbs for the dolly? While technically you can tow it, you are using the heaviest motor home on that chassis to tow the maximum amount it can tow. That would make me uncomfortable. Personally I’m looking at a 27 or 30 Sunova/Sightseer and flat towing a Subaru Forester, which weighs 3500lbs.
I would recommend flat towing a much lighter TOAD. I was shocked to find out my Sienna weighs as much as a 4wd Ford F-150, lol.

Unfortunately, with a family of 7, I don't have much of a choice towing the minivan. If I want more towing capacity then I have to find a DP. I need an class a with bunk beds and a budget of 40K. I have not been able to find a DP under 40K with bunk beds for the past 6 months.

Maybe someone will chime in who has actually done it. I mean, you’re not exceeding any weight capacity’s, and you will need a dolly with brakes. I used to tow a race car, and all it’s spares with a Plymouth Voyager way back when, grossly going over its tow limit. But I was young, I was driving alone, the van had air shocks in back, a giant tranny cooler, and the trailer had better brakes than the van.
