2020 Chevrolet Equinox LT

I take my new Equinox in one week from today to rig it for four down towing. I'm here in Yuma, AZ and the estimate here is less than the estimate I received in Washington State for a 2019 model Equinox.

It appears that preparing for towing is simpler than my 2009 Saturn Vue. I no longer need to pull a fuse.

Safe travels. JD

I just got mine last week and this weekend I have to take the front facia off to install the towbar. Makes me a little nervous on a car with less than 100 miles but hopefully it will be easier on this one than the 2015. Just out of curiosity what are they charging you for the install?

There are two types of Roadmaster towing base plates available. The one that was recommended, and I selected, is the direct connect tow bar and then there is a version with a cross bar.

I looked at the installation instructions and it made me a little nervous. They will disassemble the front of my car. It helps to know that they have worked on hundreds of Chevy Equinoxes.

Yesterday, while shopping at the Marine commissary here in Yuma, I happened to see an Equinox with the direct connect tow bar installed. I like it much better than the knee knocker cross bar.

Spdracr39, I sent you a private message with estimate info.

I got my tow equipment installed yesterday. Light harness, Brake Buddy wiring, Breakaway switch, charge Line, and base Plate. It took 8 hours and was tedious but turned out perfect. ( I hate it when it turns my pics sideways )

Timely post... I just purchased a 2020 Equinox Premier 2.0 and am looking for a "reputable" place to install my baseplate, etc in the Fort Myers, FL area. Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Anyway, in reference to this thread, are there any quirks, "got'cha's", tips. tricks, etc that anyone could pass along for outfitting this 2020 Equinox, towing/hookup suggestions/tips, etc? I am planning on using BlueOx parts which is the tow bar I already have. Thanks in advance...

We are towing a 2019 Equinox LT FWD 2.0T. I installed the Roadmaster baseplate, did the lighting electrical and charge line myself. Using the NSA Ready Brute Elite towbar and brake. Very simple to set the car up for towing. Just follow the instructions in the owners manual. No fuses to pull. I made up a laminated check list to make it easy (actually because I'm getting old and forgetful). The Equinox tows great.

One week has passed since I started this post. My Equinox is in the shop today for installation. They said that they didn't need the MH there to check the installation but I insisted. Since we are traveling I don't want to find an issue on the day we are scheduled to leave Yuma, AZ for Tucson, AZ.

They hit a glitch in getting my Roadmaster equipped 2020 Equinox set up. Apparently a change to the 2020 Equinox is the brake lights power off after 30 minutes. I don't know all of the details but after 30 minutes the air brake indicator showing that my air brakes are working when brakes are applied will time out and stop displaying.

They are calling Roadmaster to see what their recommendation is.

I will definitely be paying attention to find out what you learn about this one. I wonder why the brake lights would ever power off? Sounds strange to me...

My baseplate is the Blue Ox. It wasn't overly difficult and the video on etrailer for the installation on the 2018 was pretty accurate. The wiring harness in the front facia is different as the fog lights are all part of the master plug and the front camera has a separate connector that wasn't mentioned. I saw a tip that said to use heat shrink tubing to seal off the washer bottle so you don't have to drain it and that worked great. The part about getting the mounting plates up as high and as far back as possible is very important to getting the fascia to line back up properly when putting it back on. I had to trim some additional material off the back of the lower grill in a couple of spots to make it happen but did not have to cut out any of the grill cross members.

My issue was with a brake switch. Evidently the 2019 switch will not work on the 2020 Equinox. The fix was to use a universal switch.

I emailed Roadmaster and this is their reply:

Yes, we just released the vehicle specific bracket and brake light switch for this vehicle. The part number is 751489 ($41.82 retail) I have linked the installation instructions below for reference.

751489 brake light switch kit for 2020 Chevrolet Equinox: https://www.roadmasterinc.com/pdfinst/751489.pdf

My installer said that they were not able to get the 2020 Equinox brake switch yet.

Perhaps they couldn't get the new part or perhaps they could but they didn't want to wait a few days for a shipment.

The universal brake switch will probably work just fine. There is a reset switch on the universal switch that may need to be used if the device gets out of adjustment.

Safe travels. JD
