2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
Hello,
I am close to buying a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. I would like to flat tow it. I have read many, many posts in this forum and I am thankful for the feedback. But, I want to triple check. I don't want to screw over my family and get us the wrong car.
Can I flat tow a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland? It does have the Quadra-trac system.
How can I be sure I could flat tow it? How can I check?
Thank you friends!

Per the Jeep manual page 160 you must have the Quadra-Trac II transfer case. You can verify this by confirming that there are 4WD high/low/neutral positions.

Steve, I am pretty sure it does. I attached a picture of the vehicle description sticker.
Do you think I am correct and this would work?

Ben,
Yes it appears to be properly equipped.
As a precaution prior to purchase have the dealer show you how to put the transfer case in neutral. with the park brake off you should be able to roll the vehicle by just a little push. Make sure your on level ground .
The key item is circled in red.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
Glad to hear that you did some advance research and planning and you must know about the potential wobble situation, so just to summarize the requirements for towing the Grand Cherokee, here’s some things to look for:
You must have the proper transfer case. Quadra Trac II or Quadra Drive II.
In addition, FCA Jeep released an anti wobble towing harness for the 2018 - 2021 Grand Cherokee. It’s P/N 82216418AA. This harness will keep EPS system active while towing.
Good luck

Yes
There are 3 4wd systems; the window sticker shows the correct one for flat towing. Verify by looking just aft of the mode selector selector switch (sand, normal, etc) for a small push button, tiny enough to require a pin-like 'pusher'.
I flat tow the T-hawk listed and just bought a 2020 GC equipped with Q-TraKII, BTW, all Traihawks have the correct 4wd.
I'm disappointed if Jeep still requires a steering adapter harness for the GC, considering the '19 Cherokees ended the requirement. My research, two years ago revealed no shortage of mis-information on that requirement, even among Jeep dealers. A Jeep dealer in Kansas City went a Jeep official document stating such.
"I received the following from FCA customer service as a confirmation, after I questioned them about flat towing our Jeep.
Thank you for contacting Jeep Customer Care. Our records indicate this vehicle was equipped with 5I4 Four Wheel Drive 4WD / 4X4 and DK4 Jeep Active Drive II; therefore, this vehicle can be flat towed.
According to available information, changes were made to the 2019 Jeep
Cherokee to improve the flat tow towing behavior of the vehicle;
therefore, this vehicle can be flat towed without the Mopar accessory
flat tow kit.
Thank you,

Whalepirot. You are correct that starting with the 2019 model Cherokee, FCA incorporated the towing harness during production and can be flat towed with the Active Drive II. It took 5 years for them to do so.
Also, while reading the response you received from FCA he specifically referred to the smaller Cherokee version.
But that information does not relate to the Grand Cherokee version which is why FCA release a different tow harness for the 2018-2021 models of the Grand Cherokee.
Not looking for a debate. Some members have towed the GC and have never experienced wobble while others have had it within the first 1000 miles. Just need to know that if you do experience the wobble, you need to come to a full stop as soon as possible ( I would get out and check my equipment ) than continue on your trip.

We have a 2019 GC Overland and flat tow it. I haven't experienced any wobble, it tows beautifully behind our MH.
I make sure the air suspension is set to regular height, and I set the steering mode to sport, put the xfer case in neutral, and off we go...

Do they require? The manual recommends for enhanced performance.. dos not state that it is required. I would expect their legal department would make sure it was very clear.

Jeep is less than honest about flat towing. First, they REQUIRE the kit suggested in the manual as a means to prevent the death wobble. They don't come right out to require it but suggest it in the manual The kit is 82216418AA and it is specific to not only 2016 to 2021 Grand Cherokees, but also includes the Durango. But they also contradict their manual by stating 2021 and newer WK and WD models come with the feature built in. The paperwork with the kit however specifically lists those models.
Also, whether the kit is installed or not there is a second issue not completely addressed in the owner's manual. They have a specific procedure required to bring the GC out of tow mode. However the manual is silent on the fact that to avoid the loss of power steering for up to 45 minutes after the procedure the door needs to be opened and then closed. Then after about 3 minutes or less, open and close the door, start the GC and power steering functions as it should. However if during the 3 minutes after returning to to driving mode if the GC is prevented from going to "sleep" entirely which resets the power steering by anything such as opening a door, opening the rear hatch, turning off the kit after coming out of tow mode as opposed to before, or anything that interrupts the Jeep from entering sleep mode, you lose power steering.
Trying to get assistance or advice from FCA is almost impossible because it is likely they do not know enough about how RVers sequence their unhitching, restoring to driving, or doing anything that deviates from what Jeep/FCA thinks is the sequence of returning to driving mode.

FCA got back to me and said that the harness will enhance performance and not required. Also need to turn off active emergency braking prior to towing— Uconnect safety app.

"Enhance performance" - what does that mean?

My opinion is the GC is almost at the bottom of my list.
They never addressed the wobble properly
