All is good with 2024 Trax Flat Tow

We towed our 2024 Trax four wheel down over 7,400 miles this past summer with no problems. Our Trax is equipped with a Roadmaster kill switch and solenoid, to disconnect all vehicle electronics and effectively make the Trax a trailer. A Roadmaster charge line from RV to Trax battery keeps the battery charged so it can supply power to the Patriot 3 break system.

Update

Our 2024 Trax continues to be a decent choice. Have a few more hundred miles on it towing and still happy with the experience (both as a TOAD and just general use). Internal materials are rather low-end in some cases and have begun to show slight wear even though I consider us to be quite gentle on the car. But considering price, not a big deal for us. Have taken it to our property that is unmowed and rather rough. Impressed by the ground clearance and ability to easily drive off the paved surfaces.

Texasrebb asked why the rear wheels locked during dolly towing when the battery remained connected...Can't say for sure but have heard that the anti-slip/skid feature may be sensing the difference in rotation between front and rear.

We continue to pull the negative cable when towing and have the process down to about 2 minutes total to disconnect so not really much inconvenience. Not the fault of the car...Did mistakenly leave the emergency brake on once and the TPMS alerted us to high temperature after only a few miles. Thank God for the TPMS! I now see it as useful for detecting this mistake/problem as the tire inflation itself.

We just got back from flat towing our 2024 Trax and had no problems towing it.
Didn't even notice it back there. I installed a horizontal knife blade battery disconnect on the negative terminal and also installed a cigarette lighter socket for the patriot brake system wired directly from the battery. I was worried that it might run down the battery while braking but the longest leg of our trip was 6 hours and the car battery did great.
One problem and I may have to take it to the dealership is after disconnecting from the tow vehicle and reconnecting the battery the cruise control no longer works. I read that that may be because the traction control is turned off but it isn't.

just a FYI, for piece of mind I bypass the cars electrical 100%. I didnt wire the outlet in the car to run the braking system, I use a portable battery system to run the braking system and cameras. The battery will last longer than I can driving. Cross country its at about 82% left so takes little energy to run.

The battery sits in the front seat strapped in with the seat belt through the handles. As a bonus I can use the battery for anything else I may need...
