Most 4 x 4 GMs are but you have to check before you spend 40 - 50 K

As a "general" rule, 4 x 4s are towable AWDs are not towable. As noted above, check with the manufacturer prior to purchasing.

Download the owners manual of any you are looking at. And then test them before buying of course.

Don't believe the dealership. Look up the owners manual online and read about recreational towing. When I bought my Chevrolet in 2014 there were a number of different transfer cases available, only 2 of which could be towed 4 down. I talked to many dealerships only one of which could demonstrate for me the "neutral" position. Every dealership promised that they've sold many trucks for towing and there is no problem. Before I signed the check I wanted them to show me, most couldn't.

Long story a little shorter there was a factory bulletin which told how to do it. I found it online and was then certain of which truck I wanted.

The other thing to be aware of on the GM brand is you must disconnect the negative battery cable when towing. Apparently (or as near as I could track down) the electric power steering pump has a problem with the key being turned on so the steering wheel turns. I hooked up a latching relay with a hidden switch to disconnect the cable so I could still use the electric door locks, have the hood latched and not need an extra key.

Yep, read and re-read the owners manual. Photo copy the page and put it on your check list so you do it correctly.

For example. 2016 Ford 4x4 F150 says to NOT disconnect the battery. So you must know your vehicle.

I flat tow a GMC 4x4 Canyon . You
do leave the key in accessory position and yes you will need a kill
Switch installed. There is a very specific process to follow to get it
in flat tow mode, but if you follow the manual step by step your good. I keep a copy from the manual in the driver vanity mirror and follow it to a tee.
