Air Force One or RVI3

Leaning towards the SMI AF1 but have been considering the RVI3 braking system. (RVI just upgraded from the RVI2 to the RVI3).

How hard is it ti but the RVI in & out of the car each time? Does it become annoying after time?

I have the RVI2 system. It's a breeze to put in and remove. Under 30 seconds to put in, and under 15 seconds to remove.
Small, lightweight, and works great.

Don't know anything about the RVI3 but have used the AF1 since 2006 on 2 motorhomes and 4 toads and, once installed, it could not be more easy to hook up and use. It is truly proportional braking and is very reliable.

I started out with one of those dopey boxes you put between the front seat and the brake pedal and would not want to go back to that type of system.


That said, I did check the RVI website and it certainly seems the newer 'brake in the box' systems are much improved. If the system does everything they claim, it would eliminate the time and expense to install the AF1.

I second what Steve said. The RVI2 is super easy to set up each time and does not press against the seat like some of the boxes. It is firmly set in the floor pan and adjusts for the distance to the brake pedal. Some cars require a brace at the bottom of the seat, but most don't need anything. The only installation required is a line from the front bumper to the breakaway switch. It does require a hot all the time 12v outlet in the toad for the pump. By the way, the pump does not require much running at all. I have towed my Jeep for three straight days and not noticed any reduction in starting battery power.

The RVi units are great. I use the RVi2 and it is quick and easy to setup and remove. For portable units it is the best. Personally I would not use a permanent unit because I change cars too often.
