Almost a bad day....

We hooked up as usual the other morning leaving outside of Nashville, and did what we always do which is a rolling bake test with our RVI-2 once everything is squared away.

About 50 miles out I noticed that the temperature and one of the rear wheels of our jeep was running very hot. We stopped and investigated and discovered that somehow that after applying the rolling brake test, the plunger arm came unhooked from around the pedal.

The first thing is taught me is after we do the rolling brake test in the future to double check the set up inside the jeep with the RVI2. We have probably close to 75 trips towing like this following the same procedures and no problems.

Second, so happy we have TST tire monitors.

But, what we haven’t figured out, is why the caliper on one rear wheel locked up. It made for a difficult day until we could get the Jeep to a dealer.

Check out this breaking system.

I've never had the connection to the brake pedal come anywhere remotely loose and that is in 6 years of using the RVi brake. In fact, I think it is pain to remove it under normal conditions.

If it slipped off, was it still putting pressure on the brake pedal or just laying on the floor? It really requires very little brake pedal pressure to cause brakes to drag a bit so even laying on top of the pedal may have caused enough drag.

Also, mine automatically pushes the brake pedal 5 times to bleed off booster vacuum. Did you remember to do that?

Yes, we did the set up process which includes a three button push to clear the vacuum on the brakes. I should have taken a picture before I corrected the set up, but on the side of the road in the rain I didn’t think to do that for future analysis of the issues.

A single brake caliper dragging I wouldn't worry too much about. If happens. Had the same problem on a Honda CR-V last year while on summer vacation. Had it replaced and no other brake system faults since. If the supplemental braking system was the cause I would expect all four wheels would have been hot not just one.

Sounds to me like an issue with the Jeep, not the RVI2. Has a lot of caliper sticking issues with my daughter’s Jeep. I agree with sweetbriar, if the RVI2 was the cause you would have had more than one caliper dragging.
