Any Jeep experts out there....?

Looking this weekend and next week at a few 2012 Jeep Liberty Jet to use as a four down toad vehicle.

The mileages range from 58,000 to 89,000 miles. What needs to be (or should be to avoid roadside drama) replaced on a Jeep of that model year at 70,000 miles? Anything to specifically check while looking or driving?

Also when you tow this model 4 down does it add tow mileage to Jeep odometer? Thanks in advance

I would have brakes and bearings checked. The odometer does not register when being towed.

Thanks for the fast replies. Glad to hear no mileage and they are 4x4 with the pin to disengage

I was thinking about ball joints, front end bushings, shocks, transmission......what else could be on its way out with a Jeep Liberty at 70,000 to 80,000 miles? (Brakes and bearings will be looked at). So far they are all with dealers:(.

What is a decent price point for the 2012 jet?

I am going with the Ready Brute system for the tow and base plate. They have the new tow bar with brake system all in one.... RV Tow Bars has anyone used it?

Thanks in advance for all your comments, suggestions and opinions

I retired from a Chrysler /Jeep dealer on 07 , so pardon me for asking , what engine is in the Jeep your looking at ?

The original 3.7l , V-6 in the Liberties, and it's bigger brother the 4.7l ,V-8 in the Cherokees , were not tolerant of lack of servicing , due to sludge build up in the cly. heads.
If this is a 3.7l , I'd want to see service records to make sure the oil/filter were changed as per the intervals recommended .

The base plate is from Demco and the engine is the 3.7 6 cyl. Thanks for letting me know about the sludge build up issue would have never known to check

I'll give a description of the sludge issue , and it's result.
Three engines ; 2 V-8s and 1, V-6 . That I dealt with , good chance there were more involved.
All three , were used in the Greater Vancouver BC area , on short commutes and didn't get regular service , UNTIL their owners decided on a trip to the interior . Over the Weather network's ; " Highway Through Hell " .
The fresh oil , combined with hot operation at the sustained high RPM, necessary to make the climbs , washed the sludge through the oil system , and plugged the oil filter , destroying the engines.

Even if the service records are available , remove the engine oil fill cap and check for condensation and sludge, both on the underside of the cap and down the neck from the cap to the cyl head.

Skip nailed it on the jeeps waiting their maintenance religiously. They say every 7k and i still do it every 5k. I dont know the liberty as well as the wrangler but the maintenance can't be said enough.
