Anybody Towing 3/4 or 1 Ton Trucks?

We are new to the Class A world and have a 40' DP with a 400 HP Cummins rated to tow 10,000 lbs. I have the opportunity to get a 2011 Ford F-350 SRW for a really good price. Would flat towing this be a more trouble than it's worth? I'm between that and a Wrangler Unlimited at this point. 7 trips without a TOAD have made it readily apparent that we need a vehicle that can be towed behind us.

Thanks in advance.

We pull a ram 1500 which would weigh less than your F-350 but we can't tell its back there while towing. I have the 400 cummins on my 40 footer

In addition to our 1969 VW Bug ( weighs 1800 lbs ), we also tow our Chevy 2500HD crew cab 4X4 weighing close to 5,600 lbs. It tows great!! If the weather is bad or we are going to the mountains we choose to tow the truck. Jim OKC

I can't tell you if that Ford can be towed flat, but I did see one being towed earlier this year. I tow a Ram 3500 and saw 2 others being towed in Alaska during the summer.

I think you will need a driveshaft disconnect. Jim E. OKC

So your two choices are a 2011 F350 and a 4 door Wrangler? This would be a very simple choice for me. The Wrangler U is a much better vehicle as a toad. Its not even close.

Be careful about listed weights for vehicles. One poster said his 2500 HD weighs 5600 lb. More like 6500 lbs. Our 1/2 tone Silverado is almost 6000 lbs. I weighed it a scale.

LOL, What he said! Our '13 F150 tipped the scale at 6050 with 2/3rds fuel on board.

5600lbs seems awful lightweight for a 3/4 ton truck. my 06 CCLB 4x4 Duramax is 7800lbs per the scales....

Our 2016 F350 with subtracting the driver/passenger weight in at about 7850. We do tow a Wrangler and it is a fun vehicle to have on vacation and easy to tow. We have tossed around the idea of getting an F150 to tow so we could put an off-road vehicle in the bed.
