Anyone move from a full size pickup/SUV to small/mid size one

Hi,

Has anyone gone from a full size pickup/Suv to a mid size or small one? If so any regrets? Or do you prefer the smaller vehicle?

I am more interested in the driving not the towing experience.

Thanks,

Thanks,
For many years we had both a full extended cab F-150 and a S10. (Like '90 it '05) The only time we preferred the bigger truck was when we went out of town. The little truck would of been even better in town if, like the Ford, it would of had power steering and auto trans. And it was not the ride that made us want the big cab, it was the bigger cab. 1/4 ton of people for 30 minutes is one thing, but longer times, when you want to shift your positions...
BTW, Ford was '85, Chevy '88 so newer trucks have changed...

Hi ScoobyDoo,

Thanks for posting.

We have a Toyota Seqouia truck based SUV and absolutely love it. Even though my wife's vw coupe gets better mileage I much prefer the Seqouia for long journeys.

My wife likes her vw too much to trade it for something flat towable.

I contemplated trading the Seqouia for a flat towable mid sized SUV but have cold feet.

The best compromise is to purchase a small toad and keep the truck.

Prior to purchasing our Motorhome we had a range of full size trucks over the years from F-150 all the way to our last 2017 F-350 CC LB 4x4 Powerstroke. Now that we sold the trailer and bought a Motorhome I have since purchased a midsize 2019 Chevy Colorado CC 4x4 SB Z71 as our toad and my daily driver which consists of a 60 mile per day commute. Quite honestly, I love this little truck! It is easy to get around and park, hauls things to the dump, hardware store runs, carries the dog, trips up in the snow or off-roading to our favorite fishing spots, this truck does it all. Obviously it wouldn’t be my first choice for towing heavy loads but is rated to tow 7,000lbs with 1,456lbs payload per the yellow door sticker. I’ve towed my 69 Nova on a car trailer without issue but that’s about it. Gas mileage has been great with the V6 at 20mpg mixed and best of 26.7 paper and pencil calculated on a long open highway trip.

Hi Blue thunder,

I do like the look of the Colorado, not suitable for me though due to the cab size.

We recently just made this change 2015 f-150 Cc 6.5 bed to a Canyon Denali diesel with 6’2” bed and am really liking the truck. The front really isn’t a whole lot smaller, I think leg room etc... is about the same but 4-5” narrower in center console area. The second row is about 10-12” shorter than f-150 but still plenty big enough for my two kids. Overall length of truck is only 11” shorter than my f150.

It drives like a dream and may be the quietest vehicle I’ve ever owned inside.

Good luck!

I forgot to add

In the midsize truck segment I’m almost certain the Canyon/Colorado has the largest overall cabin.

I went from a Colorado to a 2018 Jeep Wrangler.

While I do miss being able to toss items in the pickup bed, I really love the ride and ability to navigate in busy city streets. Not to mention the off road ability.

Thanks Psw,

Hi Kenny,

Is your Wrangler 4 door? What does it weigh?

I much prefer small SUVs or pickups as a daily driver. I am currently driving a Jeep Renegade. Have also had Jeep Liberty and Subaru Forester. My wife has a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and to me it is too big.

I went from an F-150 to a GMC Canyon crew cab long bed 4x4
diesel 2 years ago. Currently at 50K miles and it’s been flawless.
I love the way this truck drives. Performance is excellent. MPG average is 28.2 and has a 500 mile range. We bought a used DP in September and I’ll have the truck set up for towing before the MH comes out of storage this Spring.
If OP feels the cab is too small you are likely not a candidate for something smaller than a full size vehicle.

For towing we have a 4x4 V8 Dodge Dakota 4 door short bed. It does great, has plenty of space in the rear seats and the cross bed box holds all our towing equipment and spares(oil, compressor etc). There's enough room for a Cricket golf cart and it all weighs less than 5000lb.

Sounds good Lancslad, I really got to go look at a few mid sized trucks. Do you use removable ramps to load it?
