I guess a lot depends on what you tow, and that depends on what you want to do with what you tow. For me, towing a Smart car would not be smart, I want my toad to do some minor off roading to get to secluded lake spots or pristine views in the outback or that ghost town 35 miles out in the desert -- AND GET BACK. If all you need is a run-to-the-store car, your options open up a lot more.

*Smart car is not "smart"

...
*Toad must be able to go off-road....
*Car carrier is a "big waste"...

So...are you possibly locked-in with flat towing a Jeep?

We MUCH prefer options...and sometimes use a car carrier, a tow dolly, and the garage

Yah, for sure. Right now the only new smart car you are going to find is an electric one. We live our electric smartie convertible but it is probably not the right choice for a lot of people. We atill work but get away to our property in Palm Springs for a few cold months of the year. We hike a lot and go a lot in the area but seldom have to travel more than a 100 km from home. So, perfect car for us but would not recommend for any off-road longer trip duty. The gas and diesel versions were better suited to that. We had a diesel for awhile.

Not a Jeep but a ZR2 Blazer. A bit more comfortable than a Jeep, but you still get to enjoy the horrendous gas mileage.

Yes, that is a reasonable "Con." But they are rare and usually have "Resort" in the name. Nightly rates usually communicate the issue.

What was your outcome?

We stayed at one of those Resorts, once. Upon being made aware of the prohibition, we asked the office about options. They offered a spot in their maintenance lot overnight for free (we were only overnight there). The staff could take it from our unload spot to their lot for us for a nominal fee. We had the hitch on the toad, so moved it and parked it ourselves.

Those are the campgrounds that I drive right by and give my money to another one.

we stayed at a very nice rv resort in amarillo, long long sites..staff pleasantly asked if we planned to stay longer than five days, to please park the trailer in their on site secure lot...for free, with 24 hr access, if we needed it.
its been rare the trailer has been an issue, most of the issues were questions and or offered a place to park it if it was in the way or we were staying long time.
like i said a few places made an issue, but all that did..also offered free place to park it.
i still plan to use ours, and use the edge four down, based on trip destination. south texas winter visits will be the trailer and expedition..

Is your Rogue an All Wheel Drive model? If so then I see your predicament.
I had a 2009 Rogue SL and traded it for my current vehicle, 2018 Rogue SL. We have pulled both vehicles on a tow dolly with no issues. The rear wheels are free spinning.

I just recently bought an Aluma car hauler, and last weekend we loaded our car, that can not be flat towed, and hauled it to Cortez, CO. We stayed in a nice campground there and used the car to explore Mesa Verde NP and nearby monuments, and to go out to dinner and run errands. This summer we'll use it to haul a Polaris Ranger up to the mountains as many weekends as possible. Being able to back up and maneuver at a gas pump or parking spot at Walmart was a big plus a couple times on this trip.
