Story about an Opel GT:
A friend had just bought one and complained the 'emergency' brake didn't work.........
Turns out he was pulling the lever that opened the headlights..............
Nope, 'emergency' brake don't work. Laughed at him for years after that.

I almost bought one but, even though the Opel was better looking, decided on the Lotus Cortina GT.

We tow a 2002 Mercury Cougar, which has been out of print for a while. Since it's the last Cougar of a brand that will never be seen again, it is a 'classic'?

It can be difficult to distinguish between antique and classic cars since all too often, the terms can seem interchangeable. However, there are officially differences between them as defined by different organizations. The definitions are quite rigid for both antique and classic cars although the definitions probably aren’t what most people will expect.
Classic Car

Definitions do vary about the distinction between antique and classic cars but the Classic Car Club of America states that to be called a classic car, a vehicle must have been made between 1925 and 1948 and has to be fully restored and running. It doesn’t matter where the car was built and other factors do come into play, such as whether or not the vehicle has power brakes or other qualifying items.
It’s extremely rare that any other vehicles are added to the classic car list maintained by the group. However, the definition of a classic car can vary greatly depending on which organization is involved. In some states, it can be a car that’s more than 15 years old and fully restored.
Antique Car

Most people would imagine antique cars to be older than classics cars but that’s actually not the case. According to the Antique Car Club of America, to be an antique car the vehicle has to be more than 25 years old, completely restored and in full running order. The definition of an antique car does vary from state to state with some giving 20 years as a minimum but as a general rule of thumb, the vehicle does need to be more than 25 years old.

So I guess my 1933 REO Roadster qualifies for both, which I didn't know.

No harm intended...
I learned a bit from the article myself. I didn't realize that classics were confined to specific years and that an antique could be newer than a classic. I had always assumed a classic was over 25 and an antique was over 35.
See... old dogs can learn new tricks!

Not even the slightest offense taken and the definitions were good.

I didn't register the REO as either Antique or Classic because I didn't want to be limited to few miles per year. It had the classic 0/60 AC unit though - Zero side windows driven at 60 MPH.
The Cougar is just an older car but it sure is fun to drive (has real AC too)..

Cool, just wanted to make sure my sarcasm wasn't taken the wrong way.

In Florida, you get an antique tag when the car over 25 and pay less than $20 to register it each year. I am not aware of any mileage restrictions. Their resoning is that you have already paid it's share of taxes during the past 25 yrs, so they give you a break from then on.

You may think your cougar is an older car being a 2002, however, my newest vehicle is a '99 and I'm hoping to get another 5 or 6 yrs out of it before I get a new one.

BTW... Windy is my G/F, I am Jason. She is the one who set up this account so I got stuck with her lame email name. Costs money to change it, and I'm too cheap, so I'm stuck with it.
