Aux. brake systems

Hello all ,

I just purchased a 2012 Honda CRV to flat tow. I am now beginning to look at braking systems. My local dealer tells me they have had good luck with the Blue Ox patriot system. My coach has air brakes and always thought that would be the way to go. I currently tow a Ford escort wagon with no braking being used.

Any input that you may have on this subject will be more than welcome , the more I look at my options the more confused I am getting.

Thanks ,

Bruce.

Having had both a portable and now an air operated brake, I would recommend going with the air system. M&G is a great system and they make a unit for the CRV. The cylinder goes between the brake master cylinder and the vacuum booster so there is no interference with the vehicle brakes. It takes a bit more installation than a portable, but the hookup time is so much faster.

If you do want something that is portable, then I would look at the RVI3 system which is lighter and faster than the Patriot.

I have an SMI Air Force One that works well. Like the M&G, the initial setup takes time, but after that, it's simply a case of hooking up the air hose.

I recommend SMI Air Force 1.
