Is it me or is the list that shows what vehicles can be towed four down is shrinking? It’s crazy how I can open a pdf from let’s just say 2010 and see vehicles that were then able to be towed four down and now not able to. Is it time to buy a dolly? Or a older vehicle with less miles strictly for towing? Decisions Decisions

The new Dinghy guide from Motorhome magazine just arrived yesterday and the guide is much smaller, not in dimensions but content. I noticed that the Chevrolet Equinox is towable but no listing for the GMC Terrain. At one time, both were listed as they were on the same platform.

You’ll be hard pressed to find anything better than your GC. Except maybe the Ecodiesel GC.

I love my GC never once had a issue with that infamous death wobble. I’ll probably tow it until the wheels fall off. It just amazes how the list seems to be smaller year after year.

The death wobble did not appear on the GC until 2016 MY.

I can think of a couple reasons why the list of vehicles capable of being flat towed continues to shrink. 1.) Right now all the R & D dollars are going into increasing fuel economy and integration of "advanced safety features". I suspect designing-in towability is pretty far down the engineer's to-do list. 2.) Warranty. Some procedures to flat tow are rather complicated. Your transmission burns up while being flat towed; you're going to SAY that you followed the procedure exactly. (Honest, I NEVER exceed 65mph. ) The manufacturer may or may not be able to verify that (via OBD). Given the low volume of vehicles that end up being flat towed, I doubt the manufacturer wants to go to the trouble of a thorough test. The death wobble is a good example. The transmission engineer said, "Yeah, it should be okay." But who thought to ask the steering engineer. They probably hooked one up and towed it around a test track a few times, with no obvious problems.

I looked at the 2019 dingy guide online and it seems they have left off some towable vehicles like the ford edge st and the lincoln nautilus

Exactly: the guide is just that: a guide; it is not all inclusive.

AND as Motorhome magazine, suggests, check the owner's manual for exact towing instructions (if any). A lot of automatics have fallen off the list due to transmission changes. In 2015, Honda went to a CVT automatic in all the CR-Vs, so it became not flat towable.

Are you sure you want to use "death wobble" and "wheels fall off" in the same sentence?

The phrases were isolated to separate sentences.

Also, cars with manual transmissions were frequently towable 4 down. As the years go by fewer and fewer cars are available with manuals..
