Baseplate installed but no brackets!

Just purchased a 98 Chevy Tracker 4wd 5 sp in great shape. It has been set up to tow by the previous owner who had a Stowmaster. Well the owner sold the tow bar with the brackets! I called Roadmaster and they told me that the brackets are matched to the particular baseplate I have so they would have to manufacture the brackets with a 2 - 3 week turnaround! Geesh what a bummer!

Check on eBay or Craigslist. Maybe you'll get lucky. I have on several items with similar problems.

Maybe so, but it is hard to imagine the factory making specific brackets for each specific baseplate. Where is the uniformity of mass production? You think they might have been confused on what you were asking?

Good question!
I spoke to them several times about this...asked if they could pull a pair out of a set already sitting on the shelf...no can do...maybe there are other scenarios where the brackets do fit other base plates...still does me no good.
Will give them a call back and ask just for the heck of it!

Sometimes if you call back you will get a different person and a whole different answer, good luck!

Spoke to a different person this time and he told me the same thing...I asked if these arms were interchangeable with any other base plate and he said NO...who really is to know?
They got you by the "short hairs"!

I've run into the same wall. I need the things that insert into the square holes on what I am told is a Roadmaster base. They say the things that insert are matched to the base and you have to buy everything over again. My soon to be toad also came with the base plate on it, but without the inserts to let me attach Blue Ox to it -- the base plate does no good.

Maybe a machine shop could fabricate a bracket if they had a picture for reference.

Yeah, Torklift Central in Kent Wa was originally going to do that for me since they are a welding shop. Then the young lady I was speaking with ran it by the shop foreman and he said it would take them a lot longer and would be much more money than she quoted. I guess the bracket for the Tracker has a few bends that they would have a tough time replicating...anyway I have an order in through PPL to get the brackets...$65 a piece...will take a few weeks to get them.

I just bought a 2002 tracker and have beelooking fo base plates and I can't believe the number of stomasters on cregs list with the stubends of the baseplates still attached in FL I would check them out and see if any of those folks will sell you that part as it they are useless to whoever buys the tow bar
Good luck
