Looking for recommendations for best setup for flat towing a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Also supplemental braking system other than Air Force One.

First off, a belated Welcome to iRV2!

You will get dozens of varied opinions on this. A lot will depend on whether you want to keep the stock bumper, if you have air brakes, etc. What I've been using for almost eight years is a Demco baseplate, Demco Excalibar II tow bar, Mopar lighting harness and M&G air brake.

I have had good luck with my NSA ready brute elite and blue ox baseplate on my 2016 JK, easy to setup simple, very little to go wrong for 60k plus miles. Mopar light harness as well.

Recently had the cable fail going to brake pedal after 6+ years, $20 for new cable, drove home with no toad brakes, didn't really notice a difference.

Check out the Ready Brake system. One of the best out there IMHO.

Another vote for the Readybrake

I have the Ready Brute Elite towbar from NSA which combines the towbar and surge brake into one unit. Also have the NSA Readystop breakaway unit. Before the Elite I had a rigid towbar and a Readybrake but I got tired of the hookup process with the rigid towbar as the arms did not telescope of course so alignment had to be near perfect before the connection could be made. I've been using the NSA stuff for about 11 years now with no major problems. I did have to replace the cable once after it got stuck in the "brake on" position due to grit in the cable housing, this was right after a very windy week of Death Valley camping. I found it was just about as cheap and easy to buy a roll of cable and the crimping tool from Amazon as it was to buy the cable from NSA so now I can make my own replacement should it be necessary again.

Am currently in the process of wrapping up installation of the ReadyBrake and ReadyStop on my 2014 JKUR. Went with the Blue Ox baseplate since that's what my ReadyBrute Elite is set up for. Hoping for some test runs in the next week or so...

If you want to see a good installation video series for this on a Jeep, check YouTube for the "WeRmudfun" channel... Should give you a pretty comprehensive look.

NSA

I'm on my second Jeep with the NSA Ready Brake Elite and Demco baseplate. As said, super easy to set up, no battery issues. First Jeep was a '99 TJ I towed for 20,000 miles, now I'm about to take my maiden voyage with my 2023 Wrangler Diesel. Has a shop install the baseplate and installed the brake cables myself.

Oddly enough, we just upgraded to a 2020 Rubicon tat needs to be set up for flat towing. We ad a 2008 JKS prior and had the Blue Ox baseplate, Ready Brute Elite toe bar, and NSA breakaway setup. Pretty simple setup, nothing fancy. Kind of a PITA to get connected sometimes as you have be almost perfectly aligned to get the arms to lock in place. It works OK and never failed us. However, with the new JLUR, we are going to use the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain tow bar and the Demo Air Force One air brake system as we have air brakes on our coach. Just makes sense to use progressive braking rather than surge braking. No qualms with either one.

Towing a 2020 Wrangler JL with a Ready Brute and Blue Ox base plate. Not much to say except that it works well.

Towing my 2021 JLU with NSA Hercules tow bar with brake system and Maximus 3 tow hooks. Like many others I recommend Night Shift Auto tow bars.

We have a 2020 Rubicon and knew we were going to do some light off-roading we decided to use the Rock Hard Aluminum bumper with winch and RoadMaster tow points that are attached to the frame and not just welded to the bumper.

We like the Roadmaster Nighthawk Tow Bar for the cable and safety chain management over the Blue Ox.

We use the NSA Ready Brute Elite to tow our Wrangler. Simple, Progressive, Effective, Reasonably priced. Give the NSA Ready Brute system a good look before you buy anything else.

Replaced front bumper with Rock Hard aluminum.
Blue ox tow bar
IRV2 brake system
Towmate wireless LED tow light

Worked great for the last 6 years.

Safe travels

Enjoy the journey
