Hello all,
I am looking for your opinion on portable braking systems for my 2020 Silverado. I know there are hard wired units but I only want to know about portable units. Who is using what and why? Pros, cons, to the unit you use please.

We used a Even Brake system from Roadmaster.

It was simple to setup and worked well and was adjustable proportional braking. It requires a constantly powered 12v connection and on occasion our toad battery would be dead so I’d recommend wiring in a charge line.

I eventually got tired of taking it in and out of the car and on our new toad, a Ford Ranger, we ended up putting in an Invisibrake.

Tell me more about your Silverado.

Remco says the negative battery cable must be removed so I'm curious how you will power it.

I tow a Colorado and use the RVI3. I like the small size, the fact that it’s pneumatic and it pushes against the floor pan or a bracket mounted to the seat rather than the seat cushion.

I have been using the same Brake Buddy for 19 years. I have towed from a 3200 pound Cherokee to a Sierra crew with a golf cart in the bed. It always works except it needed a new compressor 15 years ago. It's simple but gets the job done.

From the Motorhome Magazine towing guide for the 2020, all three Silverado models:

Special Procedures: Only dinghy tow 4WD vehicles with a two-speed transfer case that have an N (Neutral) and a Four-Wheel Drive Low setting. Start engine and shift transfer case to Neutral. Release parking brake. Check to ensure vehicle is in N by shifting to Drive and then to Reverse. There should be no movement of vehicle while shifting. Shift transmission to D. If equipped with an ignition key, turn ignition to ACC/ACCESSORY. If equipped with Keyless Access, turn engine off. Disregard the Shift to P (Park) DIC message.

Disconnect negative battery cable. If the battery is left connected or the battery cable contacts the post, the Electric Parking Brake may activate during towing,
which could cause a crash.

Shift transmission to P. Move steering wheel to make sure steering column is unlocked. If the vehicle has an ignition key, keep it in the towed vehicle in ACC/ACCESSORY to prevent the steering column from locking. If equipped with Keyless Access, keep the RKE transmitter outside of the vehicle and manually lock the doors. Access vehicle by using the key in the door lock.

The OP will need to run the power cables for an electric braking system directly to the battery but may also need to install a charge line from the motorhome.

Or see if GM has an alternate method of disabling the electric parking brake.

The online Owner's Manual has the same wording.
