There’s a lot of weight on the back of the RV and you don’t need another 3-6000lbs pushing your RV down the road
Amen to that. If you can’t afford the brakes do not tow anything as heavy as a car.

My vote is w those that have them on back of MH rather than toad.
Here's my DIY rack & set up.
Prior MH was similar except I mounted the rack base on the tow bar shaft. Newer MH had 2nd receiver PO installed for bike rack use so I now use that approach.

Anyone out there carrying bicycles off the back of your toad and does it cause any problems?
No difference on towing. Put bikes on roof of car to help keep them clean through.

We tow a 2016 Chevy Equinox which is built to tow 4 wheels down. We had a tow receiver installed on the back of the car and tow with a bike rack with 2 bikes. It’s no problem.

One thought about bikes on the tow vehicle is , when you settle into the camp ground and want to go somewhere, you want to take the bikes along every time? We started with bikes on the Jeep, after a year we changed over. Found it to be less work.

Carolla toad with bikes

We successfully towed our 2007 Matrix, 4 wheels down, carrying 2 bikes on the back for more than 9,400 miles this summer, behind our 2005 Seabreeze. Our trip was to Alaska (from Wyoming, Ontario, Canada) and included The Top of the World Highway.
We had no problems carrying the bikes. We should have used bike covers. This was the first time we had a toad, and will have one with us on future trips. We will also take our bikes along.

We just take them off if we feel we don’t want to take them with us

Bicycles on Back of Toad

We can carry both bikes on back of RV , or car , the reason it works better for us on the car is because the bike rack , when in back of RV doesn’t have enough height to fold towbar up without removing bikes . Also , some concern bikes could touch hood of car on an incline or tight turn .
