Blue Ox Alpha

Anyone have experience with this 6500 rated tow bar? Way past time to replace my 15 year old one. Blue Ox spokeperson says they don't rebuild any unit 10 years or older.

I'e been using mine since 2012 with two different coaches and two different toads ( a CR-V and now an MKX). I have re-built it twice with the kit from Blue Ox and am planning a trip to YNP next month. I'm happy with it.

I have an Alpha. About 4 years old and about 30k miles. Works fine. Jeep TJ toad. Second BO tow bar I've had over the years.

We go to Quartzite most every year and every other year or so I have BO do inspection there.

I used an Alpha with our Jeep Wrangler for over three years/20,000 miles and it was great. I had an opportunity to get a Demco at a steal price so I changed but I wouldn't hesitate to get another Alpha.

Was at BO one week ago and they serviced my Alpha that is 4 yo. Heard service rep tell another who had a 15 yo bar they would not service and recommend replacement every 6-8 years due to metal fatigue. That kind of statement IMHO is a CYA.

So if I tow 8 hours a day for 30 days a year how many years is the bar good for. Someone else tows 8 x 180 days then is theirs only good for 2 yrs. Or does the replacement recommendations apply to using 365 days for 6 years. IMHO the CYA is to sell more bars.

My original tow bar was an Alpha. After about 30,000 miles, it was showing signs of wear. Blue Ox was reluctant to rebuild it so I sourced the parts and did it myself. I sold it and bought a Demco. Much more robust design.

Does the Demco match up with a Blue Ox baseplate and tabs?

With my Demco Excalibar, I had to change the Knuckles for a Blue Ox base plate.
Easy swap.
