Blue Ox brake system
Hello All, I just purchased a new blueox brake system for my Jeep Wrangler. Instructions say to plug into a constant hot 12v auxiliary plug for power. My jeep has a key hot 12v and not a constant 12v power source. I could come off the fuse panel with a separate 12v auxiliary but won't that drain my jeep battery while towing?
What does everyone do in this case? Can I pull off of the 12v wire in the 7 pin connector atthe tow hitch? That way it will pull power from the Motorhome while towing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for your help.

I use the 12V plug outlet back rear left inside panel. Our 2022 has
one there and I use that as it is always hot. We travel no more than 6 hrs iin a day max, and never had problem with the battery going bad. You do have to turn the Jeep light switch off, or not left in auto.

I won't be by my rig until tomorrow. I'll post pictures of what I used. It may work for you.

Look in the console. That is where the hot 12v is located on my 2012 Wrangler.

Does your Jeep have the factory (or sometimes dealer) installed bank of four AUX switches? You can configure one of those to be always hot.

Not sure of the provisions on the Jeep, but I assume you have an accessory position on your ignition switch that will make that 12 volt outlet hot. If you are connected to your motor home with the 12 volt umbilical cord that will provide power to your toad. Finding the constant hot wire in that cord coming from the motor home will allow you to connect it to the toad battery to keep it charged.
That allows you to draw current when needed for the supplemental brake without draining the battery.

I use a 12 volt receptacle in the center console of 2018 Jeep, as it is always hot. I did run a charging line for the jeep as I did the Motor home previously. It was not a difficult add on and provides peace of mind.

I only have a USB in the console and nothing in the rear seat area in my wrangler.
Tomorrow I ll try to see if I have 12v coming from the connection cord from the Motorhome. If not I'll hook something up from the chassis batteries to the jeep.
Thanks to everyone who gave me some tips.

I added a 12v plug to the drivers side footwell and wired it straight to the battery. I also wired a 12V line on the umbilical. I didn't want the power to the Blue Ox being turned off for any reason, or me forgetting to turn a switch on.

They make a small jumper wire that goes into the fuse box on a JL. You remove the cigarette lighter fuse-install the jumper-cigarette lighter is always HOT. Google Jeep Cigarette Light Jumper

Good morning Everyone and thanks so much for all.your tips. I found that my 7 pin connector on the Motorhome had a key hot connection so I just added a two wire cord to the 6 pin connector on the jeep and ran the wire underneath the jeep along with the brake away wire up to the driver side foot well. I purchased a 12v aux port and tucked it in under the seat where it will be out of the way when not needed. I also added a fuse link . I hooked up the umbilical cord to the Motorhome and jeep and tested everything and all is good.
If for some reason I have a problem I will.up date this post.
Thanks again and Safe Travels to all.

Not sure what component(s) you mean by "blue ox brake system" .... if not relevant simply disregard.
Our installer initially powered a Brake Buddy (BB) coming from a jump starter located in the back seat foot area. This fed the BB plug in installed in front under side dash.
Then during several trips we realized that the jump starter was not needed to power the BB, since the installer also had wired the umbilical cord pins to the BB plug under the dash. So in our case the motorhome connector provided the BB with power; not sure why but maybe had something to do with wiring for the toad lights etc. ... now have 2 power sources for BB if needed.
Only issue is, when using BB with umbilical cord, have to go outside, after motorhome shutoffs, to start motorhome then start the BB purge cycle again. Not a real problem since always go outside again to check all is secure.
Apologize if digressing, but may be general help to someone else if not relevant to this post.
