Blue ox patriot 2010

So I am new to flat towing I bought a used 2010 patriot blueox portable brake. What I was wondering. If on a mostly flat tow I don't need the portable brake. But if hook up breakaway and have the break system plugged in. In the event of a breakaway situation will the portable engage to slow tow vehicle. I only asking cause I have more stress over is the breaking system in error.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We’re sure glad you joined the gang here!

I'm not familiar with that system, but hopefully someone will be along that can help.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Unless the Patriot is set up it will not act as a break away. The arm has to be adjusted to the right length during setup. I have used the Patriot for about 10 years now, zero problems. Do you have the dash mount that tells you what the master unit is doing? I have pulled out the breakaway plug on a turn, my fault for not routing properly, but knew right away by the light up on my dash unit. I wouldn't be afraid to use it.

So even if you go through set up, but then you get a fault while in tow. Do you think it will do breakaway disconnect in breakaway situation ? I am with you I am not happy so far with this system.

I have never had a fault while towing other than loss of communication, which was a brief flash on the dash screen then back to normal before I could stop. Put it down to poor plug connection in my class A dash plug. Changed the plug and no further problems. I am satisfied with the system after aprox 60,000 miles.

I use the same system. Had it for about 10yrs. Sets up in about 5mins and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. You do need to do the full setup each time for the breakaway to work. Occasionally I lose communication between the controller and car, but that’s mainly due to the distance between the two. They offer a booster for long distances which I don’t have.

Follow the owners manual setup instructions and get familiar with the system.

If setup properly and your 14 year old system is in working order it will stop your toad in a breakaway
