Blue Ox Patriot II over braking

We tow a CRV. When braking hard going downhill, the Patriot II braking system locks the rear tires on the toad. Brake is set on lowest sensitivity and force. Is the sensor in the brake overreacting because of the downhill condition?

This doesn’t seem to happen on level ground.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

How close to level is your tow bar ?

Tow bar manufacturers have a set variance from level for the installation of their bars , a bar installed out of that range can; lift or lower ; the toad front suspension as the coach brakes are applied .

If the bar angle to the toad is too far down , then the front suspension of the toad is forced lower on coach brake application , lifting weight from the rear and reducing rear wheel traction for braking.

Blue Ox tow bars , state 2" ( up/down , over bar length) as the limit , for their bars installed.

See my post from today entitled "Patriot 3 Brake system - Some good info from Blue Ox".

I think the Patriot 2 and 3 are very similar except Patriot 3 continually monitors the brake force.

Have you reduced both your Force and Max Force settings. Sounds like you may need to reduce the Max Force setting a bit.
