Blue Ox poor customer service

I have a blue ox tow bar and with it the blue ox coiled electrical cable. after two years the cable is all cracked and in poor condition. I have figured that in the two years the cable has been outside on the vehicle when towing about 40 days and spent the rest of the time in the storage bay, so 40 days use out of 730 days of ownership. I had a roadmaster before this and after six years the electrical coiled cable was still in great shape, so blue ox must have used a cheap product to begin with, even though they want $100.00 to replace the cable. in closing I would not recommend buying blue ox products to anyone as their customer service is terrible.

You're post does not indicate any real reason for people to not buy Blue Ox other than your wish that the cord would have lasted longer than it did.

No place does it mention that you contacted Blue Ox or the discussion you had with them and if so, what "exactly" they said so we can read "both" sides of the story.

In conclusion, Amazon sells Blue Ox electrical cords for $70,00 and Roadmaster cords for $56.00

I have to wonder what the issue is with your Blue Ox electrical cable. I purchased my Blue Ox cable when I purchased my coach in May of 2007 and it's as good as new today. I have never tracked the days of use but i'd say the exposure to the elements is about average compared to other users. My cable is probably very similar to yours as it's the coiled variety. I have never had the opportunity to deal with Blue Ox customer service, but if you want a real life experience dealing with incomedence and "it sucks to be you" approach try ATT/DTV customer service. If it was me I'd purchase a new cable from Amazon and get on with enjoying the RV lifestyle.

i'm sure the cables were better back then but I have talked to others who have recently purchased and their cables had the same problem with the same result from blue ox, so if I can steer a few people away from blue ox maybe they will see that it is better to keep the customers who purchased happy.

Roadmaster used to have a great cable. Mine lasted over 10 years. It was made in the USA. The new one looks sick after 4 years. Guess where the newer one was made?

If you’re lucky in today’s market, you could get a 1 year warranty. Some are as low as 30 days. Unless your coiled cable was listed otherwise, you really can’t expect Blue Ox to send you a new cable after 2 years. For all they know, that cable has been laying in the sun for 2 years. I feel for you. I had to replace my coiled cable because it got pinched in the tow bar. My fault. We all wish our stuff would last forever, but sadly, that ain’t so.

I purchased my BlueOx tow bar and cables August 2015. Have about 35000 miles of towing with them. Except for being a little dirty, they look as good as the first time I used them.

After All was said and done, what did you end up doing? I have the same issue, these coils are crappy and had a tow bar lock up on one side, Im not sure what's happening with Blue Ox, seems like the quality of there products are not what they used to be........

There is the answer, product quality has declined on so many products that are not manufactured to the previous standards and is not unique to Blue-OX. I have Blue-OX and Roadmaster towing parts and will buy from them again lodging a complaint with their customer service if an item appears to beneath the quality the public expects from one of the best manufacture’s in the industry. If enough of their loyal customers complain then they would be foolish not to take corrective action.

All of the above is part of the reason we bought an older Newmar, it was not a cost issue but a personal perception of quality. New and untried technology is not always as reliable as tried and true.

Five or 6 years ago I disconnected and did not stow the tow bar corretly. It dragged for about 2 tenths of a mile. I did not know it and when I got to the site and backed up, guess what, bent a bar.

Contacted Blue Ox and admitted what had happened. They had a new tow bar to me in two days.

I have also contacted their CS on occasion and have been very satisfied. If I had to, I'd buy another Blue Ox and if the coil was not what I expected I'd buy a good one - out of pocket. As suggested I would let CS know all the facts.
