Brake Buddy Classic 3

Anyone install the brake buddy classic 3 themselves. I am to the point that I need to wire the dash mount connector to the brake away kit and I am confused about the wiring. I have 4 wires. White, red, black and brown on the dash mount cable. The black wire goes to the 15 amp charger that was supplied with the brake buddy per the instructions. That leaves me 3 wires. It then tells me to connect brown and red wires from the dash mount connector to the wires from the brake away switch. The wires on the brake away switch are red and black, so does the red go to red and the brown go to black? Also what do I do with the white wire? Is that a ground? I do not know why the instructions don't label the color of all the wires.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I downloaded the pdf instructions. I used to have the old classic and now have the vantage select.

Looking at the instructions for the dash mount. the red and brown wires connect to the breakaway. I would connect red to red and brown to black....should make no difference because the red and brown wires purpose is to show an open or closed condition to the buddy. For the old classic and the vantage the breakaway connects directly to the Buddy...polarity not important.

Now the black wire goes to the positive terminal of the battery!!! White by convention is ground. That completes enough to get the buddy working after you plug the power into the dash Mount.

Now the additional feature of charging the towed vehicle battery. Connect Black to the positive terminal of the battery. Connect white to ground. Now you have to connect the red to the positive power to the towing vehicle. So the towing vehicle will charge the battery in the towed vehicle. The box appears to have an LED that will illuminate when you have hooked up properly.

I have never used a charging circuit since I have to stop every 200 to start my engine on the lexus and that is usually all I require.

Any way if you don't get the charging system hooked up you can still use the BB with just the Dash Mount and breakaway.

You might talk to BB about your hookup just to make sure. Instructions are not that clear.

Oh, one other thing. With the old classic and my vantage select power was supplied by the Cig lighter. No dash connector. breakaway was separate.

Call BB for their recommendations. But say for mine I would wire to the battery circuit of my MH and run it to a quick disconnect. Surprised that BB does not supply some of that wiring. Maybe they have a kit and some instructions. If not you may have to buy some wring and connectors at a local parts store.

Oh remember the purpose of the charger is to keep your towed vehicle battery from discharging during operation of the Buddy. If it goes dead....no braking. Always make sure your battery is good enough for your trip. If you have an emergency breakaway the BB will apply brakes until the battery goes dead.
