Can I Tow a Chevy Avalanche 4 Down?

I own a Chevy Avalanche. Can I tow this 4 down with my DSDP? What equipment would I need if feasible? Would I need a driveshaft disconnect? Is this vehicle too heavy for towing?

Your owners' manual has the answer to your towing question.

Tfryman didn't answer any of my questions. I asked if the Avalanche was too much vehicle for my DS (too heavy?). I asked about needed equipment. Since this is a RWD with automatic trannt, I asked about possibly needing a driveshaft disconnect. Tfryman simply advised "check owners manual" which would not cover my questions.

Elbridge, check what the maximum rating in pounds your tow package is on your coach. There's the starting point, you can't exceed that max tow rating.

Then check this:
http://www.motorhome.com/download-dinghy-guides/

Find your year Avalanche and it will tell you yea or nea, and what's required if it's towable. It has the weights listed for your vehicle and more. You can see then if it's within tolerance of your DS, which shouldn't be an issue I would think.

Best luck, hope this helps.

The DS has a towing capacity of 10k. So you should be okay.

Best place to find towing advice and equipment is at:
Store : Remco.

Actually, since you didn't tell us the year of your Avalanche or if it was 2WD or 4WD I told you the most important answer to your questions. You asked:

Your Owners manual will tell you if you can tow it "4 down" as well as if it was feasible or if you needed to disconnect the driveshaft. Get to the point where is CAN be towed 4 down and then worry about what additional equipment you will need or if it is too heavy for your unspecified DSDP with no information on its' towing capabilities.

This should get you started in your quest for answers. Your manual will be specific to your model year and include more information than this excerpt.

towing a Avalanche

im retired GM mechanic..i have never seen a 2 wheel drive Avalanche. so towing a 4 wheel drive is a no no . w/o removing drive shafts. i always advise people wanting to tow 4 wheels down to get a smaller size SUV with a Mechanical transfer case. not a electric one. Chevy trackers.Toyota RAV 4. smaller Jeeps. Standard transmissons are the best to tow,but as we get older.most of us like Automatics. so do your research on what ever your thinking of towing.

According to the various dinghy towing guides, a 4WD Avalanche is towable but the 2WD is not without modifications. Remco says their transmission lube pump can be used to safely tow a RWD Avalanche.
Store : Remco

An Avalanche has a curb weight in the 5800-6000 lb arena, so is within the tow capability of your DSDP (which is at least 10k lbs) with a suitable tow bar.

We towed a 2004 Z71 Avalanche for 10 years a 100,000 miles. Check your owners manual to see if yours is towable and procedure for towing. Avalanche is a heavy vehicle.
