Carpet protector for paint?

I’ve seen using the adhesive carpet film for protecting your windshield. Has anyone used it on the front of your towed vehicle on hood etc? is it safe to do so?

There was a thread about this on another forum. Some stated that carpet wrap would leave adhesive residue. They recommended a product called Road Wrap although there was mention that not available on Amazon but some company had bought it out. Only in 12" and 6" widths but claims to be good for 7 days before leaving residue.

"rssnape".....I was the one that wrote about using the carpet protector. It was too sticky and was difficult to get off, especially after being in the sun for awhile. It required cleaning of the paint to get goo off of it and I was afraid it might damage the paint.
