Cherokee Trailhawk & Ready Brake: Need a charge line?

I just joined the Flat Tow Society and have a question.

I installed a NSA Ready Brute Elite II with integrated Ready Brake for use with my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with Roadmaster baseplate.

When in flat tow neutral, the Jeep is off (not in accessory or run). I'm using the Ready Brake which is entirely mechanical. I also installed the lighting kit from NSA so power for the tail, brake & turn signals is provided by the MH.

Is there any need to run a charge line to the Jeep's battery?

No, you wonít need a charge line with that configuration. I towed a Jeep Cherokee for years with a Ready Brute Elite tow bar. No issues with the battery. I did have to add a charge line when I installed the flat tow harness but you donít need the harness with a 2019 model so you will be good.

What year is the Cherokee, do you have / need the anti-death wobble kit which powers the EPS when in tow mode? If you have EPS powered in tow mode then you need a charge line as the EPS system will drain the battery within a couple of hours without one. If you get one, get one that can handle a fairly high amp draw, not a trickle charge as you might need if you were only powering brake lights.

oops sorry missed the model year, you should check to see if EPS is powered in tow mode on the 2019, I am not sure what the fix was for 2019, if it powers the EPS by default when the transfer case in neutral, etc?

Thanks for the replies!
We're going out next weekend for a 2-3 hour drive so I'll take and before & after voltage reading on the Cherokee's battery for an approximate reading on how much power is being drawn.
