Coachmen Leprechaun 319DS flat towing 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid with Invisibrake
As the title stated, I am flat towing a 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium Hybrid behind a Coachmen Leprechaun 319DS using the Roadmaster Invisibrake system. All works as designed until about 3 hours of driving time into the trip when barely pushing the RV brakes, the Fusion brakes start grabbing hard enough to slow down the RV. This will continue until the Fusion is unhitched completely and driven again. I have not re-hitched the tow vehicle back to the RV until usually the next day and continue the trip where all is well again until about three hours into the trip the brakes start grabbing again. I spoke with Roadmaster and their explanation was that there have been a "handful" of complaints about grabbing brakes with the Fusion and C-Max hybrids due to the nature of the regenerative braking system they use. After a period of time the vacuum level in the braking system goes below a point where the braking in the Fusion must over compensate causing the brakes to grab. Their solution is to install a "Fusemaster" that will bypass the "Vacuum Pump Relay" fuse thereby turning the vacuum system off during towing. Does anyone flat tow a Ford Fusion Hybrid using the Roadmaster Invisibrake and experienced this issue? If so, what was your solution? Also, do you know if the solution Roadmaster is suggesting will harm the towed vehicle in any way? Thanks.
