Durango382, we rolled into Port Charlotte with no issues today. It actually went into neutral faster this morning departing Tampa. I unhitched up by office so if I needed to push it into a parking spot I could, but it came out of neutral and right into 2 wheel. Man was I relieved and happy. We are here for a week so I'll let you know how it goes when we move again. Good luck on testing your update.

TomAndGloria - all this talk of issues and I figured I should stall no more in checking out the ability to go in and out of Neutral now that they performed a recall re-flash/update - and I'm happy to say it worked fine. In fact, I'd almost say it worked better...less time between the Neutral light going on when turning the knob to Neutral, and less time going back to 2WD when turning the knob that way after disconnecting and reconnecting the power. Yahoo!

Hi guys.
I'm having the same issue with my 2015 Canyon transfer case when used as a dinghy. I've been towed twice because of inability to get it out of neutral. My dealer gave me a copy of the "temporary" fix involving removal/replacement of fuse.
If I'm inderstanding you correctly a permanent fix has been found and a software update fixes the problem? Are you aware of a bulletin number or something that would help my dealer find the fix? They keep telling me they've never received any additional information. Had my truck in there as recently as last week regarding the issue. Getting really tired of worrying/dealing with it.
Any info you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks.
Ps: I assume the fix does away with having to remove the fuse?

X-ray 97, I am sorry to hear about your issues. I know the frustration. I just towed 4 down again back up to Tampa today and everything worked perfect. I am including the service advisor and dealer who did the software update on my truck. Maybe you or your dealer could call and get some info. It is : Rivard Buick/GMC. Robert Holt at 813-620-6550. I hope he can assist you. Keep us posted.

Thanks Tom! That's great news. I'm supposed to hear from a service manager Monday. I'll keep you advised.

Mine is at the dealer today for the hood latch recall, I asked to double check mine on this transfer case software update, my VIN does not show up on the list for it. The truck has a build date of Oct 2014.

Knock on wood but I've never had to go so far as to remove the fuse - I just reconnect and then disconnect going through all the steps and so far that's fixed it each time. And, I remind myself of what they stressed to me - SLOW DOWN when going through the steps to allow the various computers to boot back up. I actually count out the seconds annotated in the directions I posted awhile back.

This thread has been extremely helpful. I have not encountered any more problems since the software update to my truck. The build date on my truck is May 2015. MAJ Frizz, I didn't know about a recall for hood latch and nothing was mentioned at the dealership that updated software or dealership in Sarasota that did oil change. Do you know if that was specific to builds in 2014?
Thx,
Tom

Just read through this whole thread and thought I would would add my $.02. I’ve been towing my Canyon for close to 10k miles and had the neutral problem initially until I figured out that I overlooked the last part of step #2 of ID 3971980 - “turn the key to off”
I trained myself to remove the key before reconnecting the battery and have not had a problem since.

I had the Flash update done last month and the tech told me it was for cold weather shifting problems of the 4wd module but it said nothing more. Maybe it will also help solve others problems. Just some thoughts.
Love the Canyon for a toad.

Step #2. Set the parking brake, then shift the transmission to P (Park) and move the ignition key to OFF.

Step #3. Connect the battery.

Hi Tom,
I contacted Rivard and tried to talk to Mr. Holt but was advised "he is extremely busy" and was directed to leave a voice mail, which I did. I explained the problem, my communication with you, and ask that he call me. I got no response.
I called the GMC Customer Service number, talked to a representative, and was advised someone would contact me. When that didn't occur I recontacted them, talked to a service rep who knew nothing regarding the problem, and was transferred to a Service Supervisor.
The Service Supervisor advised that there is no software update or other solution other than the new procedure involving the removal of the fuse. He asked if I could hook the truck up to the motorhome, drive for awhile, attempt to disconnect and get the transfer case out of neutral, and drive the Motorhome with the truck in tow to my local dealer should I be unsuccessful.
My Motorhome is stored at my son's place, about 35 miles from here, so I was unable to do that. He gave me his name and extension number and advised me to call him directly if I have trouble getting the transfer case out of neutral the next time I use the Canyon for a toad. He assured me that GMC is seeking a permanent fix for the problem.
We will be leaving next Thursday on a road trip to Arizona. I tested the shift of the transfer case into neutral and it worked this time on my first attempt (at times it has taken 2-3 attempts before I'm successful).
At this point it appears that my only option is to take the truck and Motorhome to the nearest dealer and contact the GMC Service Supervisor if/when the problem arises again.
Thanks again for your help.
Roger
