cool Tech LLC: Awful time getting support.

Bought their Jeep wiring harness as recommended by a fellow poster here on the board.

Installed the harness and first thing the left side tail, front and side lights went out. Checked the fuse and it looked fine, then put hours into looking for a damaged wire or other source of the problem until out of desperation, I put a new 15 am fuse in and what do you know, the left side lights started to work.

I had disconnected the wiring harness from Cool Tech LLC before trying the new fuse. Reconnected the Cool Tech Harness and snap the fuse was ruined.

I have revisited the instructions to see if I have made a mistake but it all appears to line up just as Cool Tech instructs.

Have called them three times and sent an email and no response.

How to you reach these people for some assistance?

Unfortunately, several of us have had the same experience when trying to contact them. I tried to get some information before buying our harness and they NEVER DID respond to my emails or my phone calls. We bought the harness anyway since so many people recommended it, and thankfully we have not had any problems with it. VERY frustrating way to conduct business.

They finally did call and leave a message.

More importantly, they emailed me a set of trouble shooting instructions. The trouble shooting guide was helpful and I solved the problem. But.... why not just publish the guide on the web site so I could download it and fix the problem rather than having to make calls and send emails all the while my jeep is on jack stands in the garage.

All is well now though.

Thanks for the update. Glad you got it fixed. Is this manual something you could post here for others to have in case they need it ?

Trouble shooting guide attached. You have to read between the lines a bit to get this. I suspect this document is a translation from another language.

Nonetheless, it got me headed in the right direction.

Rich and Cork:

My problem was related to the wiring of a power take off from the coach that was miswired (by me) and then when I though I was done, depending on the wire colors and trouble light confirmation.... I found that the right signal on the coach flashed the left signal on the Jeep.

I was okay with that but decided anyone following me might be confused.

That fix was very simple, I swapped the turn signal wires in the umbilical cord and now everything works fine.

New item:

One item though, if I don't disconnect the battery, when the brake system pushes on the brake pedal, the lights on the Jeep come on powered by the jeep system. I can tell because during the set up phase of the device, the brake lights were coming on even though the coach lights were not.

I may continue to disconnect the Jeep battery to stop sending confusing signals to the brake lights. And I am concerned the Jeep brake lights may override the coach turn signals which use the same bulb/filament on the Jeep.

Thoughts about this?

Just when I thought I was finished with this project.

Turns out there are no diodes in the Cool Tec wiring harness.

When I finally got it working I discovered that when the parking lights or tail lights were on via the coach umbilical cord, the electrical systems in the jeep were being powered via a back flow of the power to the lights.

With the jeep battery disconnected and the key on and the brake lights off on the coach, the jeep dash was dark but the moment I stepped on the brake in the coach and lit up the jeep brake lights, the jeep dash came alive. Good grief.

Had to wire in two diodes on each side of the Jeep. One for each brake/turn light and one for each parking light. Four diodes in all.

FYI.... the wires for the left tail light can be located in the left side sill area of the front door in the Jeep. The right tail light wires are located in the front right side door sill area. This threw me for a while since there are a pair of like colored wires for the right tail light in the left sill and I didn't expect to see a wiring bundle in the passenger side sill. I discovered the nature of this when cutting those wires to install the diode; with the wires cut the turn and parking lights still worked on the right side.

Anyway, got it now. It's really not a difficult thing to do but having to work with no instructions and go on hunting expeditions to locate the right wires was time consuming.

In case you decide to go the diode route. (2010 to 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited):

White with green stripe parking light left side
White with orange stripe turn/brake light left side
White with purple stripe parking light right side
White with yellow stripe turn/brake light right side
