CR-V Brake Question
I am towing a 2013 CR-V using a Ready Brake Brute Elite II. My question is about the brake pedal. When I get in the toad after a trip I notice that the brake pedal is pushed to the floor.
The brake is not stopping the car. So, I am wondering if this is a problem while towing. I notice that many times the toad's brakes do not come on when I am stopping unless I really have to stop quickly.
Is that normal? Thanks for helping a newbie!

This sounds like a major problem with the cars braking system which should be addressed before you drive it anywhere. My first guess is master cylinder failure, but it could be other things.

Agreed. Something major is wrong.

How does it drive normally off the MH? Could be several problems, leaking brake lines, master cylinder internal leaks, etc. But very serious.

Works fine. I’m guessing this has something to do with the vacuum.

Let me clarify, the CR-V performs as expected while towing and while driving. I just noticed that when I get in the car after towing the brake pedal seems stiff like if I pump the brakes with the car off.

If that is before starting the car probably normal as you should have bled the assist as part of your set up and as your brake system activates while towing. Your brakes will work w/o power assist but it will take much more pedal pressure to get braking. Try it before and after starting to compare.
What brake system? I've had Brake Buddy and RVi3 and both included bleeding off the assist as part of the set up.

The issue the OP describes is fairly common for us towing a '14 CRV and using Ready Brute Elite tow bar. The issue appears to be friction in the internal brake cable conduit and brake cable as it is installed in CRV.
After you unhook from towing, just manually pull brake pedal back to neutral/normal position and all is well. Be aware, if brake pedal is stuck down, your brake lights will be on and will run battery down.
Our solution, as suggested by NSA, is to run a short bungee from brake pedal to seat frame - this keeps constant pressue on pedal and helps keep it in neutral/normal position. We have had internal brake cable conduit and brake cable replaced and problem persists. If we are ever close to NSA shop, will have them redo the installation.
Also, make sure that the brake cable on the Ready Brute is adjusted properly. IIRC, there should be about 2" slack in cable. If there is not sufficient slack, there will be constant pull on brake pedal.
This is 1 of the 2 issues that I have with Ready Brute set up.
I think you will find that the bungee is the solution. Good Luck.

We tow a '13 CRV and have the M&G braking system installed. We do not have the problem described. This braking system is an excellent one.

Great. I’ll get a bungee. Everything else is fine with the set up.

I would still check with a Honda service facility! That doesn't sound normal!

The bungee cord did the trick. No issues after towing last weekend. Thanks everyone.

How does it act when you pull the breakaway switch? That should clue you into whether the supplemental braking system is work correctly or not.
