Question Demco Baseplate for GMC 1500 4x4

Re: toad towing. I've got some concerns with the baseplates from Demco that I installed on an '08 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4. At first I thought that Demco had purposely spread the clevis connectors a bit to facilitate hook ups. When the spreading seemed to increase I decided to perform a reversing action. That is when I found out that one of the ears was as soft as putty. An easy strike with a blacksmith hammer will bend it. How can that be right when you may have a 7000 lb. truck in tow? I haven't contacted Demco or the dealer yet. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this. TIA Ed

Having dealt with Demco on several occasions I would urge you to simply call Demco direct and discuss your issue with them. They have always been helpful to me.
