DIC Error Msg on Toad

My 2011 Buick Lacrosse AWD is approved for all-four-down towing in the owner's manual. Car has been low maint for almost 80,000 miles but once I started towing it with my RV, the DIC says "Have AWD serviced". During my last trip (350 miles) I took the car to a dealer and they said the computer needed to be flashed first, then if that doesn't work, I'll need a new $3000 part. Off the record, the service manager said he would have the tranny fluid changed first before paying $3000. BTW I am very careful to start the car to allow the tranny oil to circulate about every 120 miles. Question is, do I give up on Buick and go to a more common Toad or push (actually pull) on?

If you are four-flat towing a Buick like this and have had this error message, I'd love to hear from you to know your experience and if/how you solved the issue. Thank you.
