Too much confusion and differing opinions on different websites.
Question: 2017 Jeep Patriot with 4x4 and auto tranny. Can it be flat towed ?
Many sites say that Jeep says all Patriots with 4x4 can be flat towed but others say no.
Yes I know a manual tranny can be flat towed but they are hard to find so I'm looking to expand my options.
The 2017 models do not show/have a transfer case so I am assuming it's an electronic push button that puts the vehicle in 4x4 ( or is is really AWD as opposed to actual 4x4 ? )
If it's push button, how do you get the 4x4 push button ( or AWD ) into Neutral and if you can, then does the main tranny also stay in neutral or do you put it in park. Yes I know that sounds dumb but a previous SUV, a Suzuki XL7 had to be placed in Park to flat tow. I checked with Suzuki directly cause I didn't believe it but they confirmed and we towed many miles that way.
So does anybody have a definitive answer to the question ?

And that's consistent with the info in the 2017 FMCA Dinghy Tow Guide. I wonder where Rioesmarex is getting the bad or conflicting info? Something crucial like that should always be learned from an authoritative source, not internet hearsay!

In addition to the Wrangler, other examples of Jeeps that are suitable for flat towing include the Gladiator, all 4×4 models of the Jeep Patriot and Jeep Liberty, certain models of the Jeep Cherokee (only those with ActiveDrive II or 2-speed PTU), and 4-low models of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

As long as the Jeep Patriot you choose has a manual transmission then it can be flat-towed with all four wheels on the ground but you will need to take a look in the owner’s manual as there are usually other stipulations you must abide by.

Do not go by what anyone posts on web sites. The final authority on whether a vehicle can be flat towed is the manufacturer's owner's manual as shown above in Post #2.
