Disable switch for 2007 Saturn Vue

I am going to build a switch with an in line fuse to avoid having to remove the 30 amp accessory fuse every time I tow. My question is, does the switch need to be a 30 amp switch? I assume 12 gauge wire will work?

I know how to construct the switch, I just am not sure about the tolerances of the components.

So, before I cause a fire, please help!

Yes you will need a 30 amp rated switch because you will be passing up to 30 amps through it. Also, 12 gauge wire is really only rated to 20 amps, maybe 25 under ideal conditions. You will need to step up to 10 gauge to handle 30 amps. Chances are it will not actually pass a full 30 amps, but better safe than sorry. I always err on the side of caution. Better to overkill than start a fire.
