Do older CR-Vs need the fuse bypass?

Hi everyone,

I know the issue with CR-V battery drain has come up repeatedly but I haven't seen the specific question I have answered. I seems like everyone has later model Cr-Vs like 2008-14. I have a '98 model and I have towed it and also experienced the dead battery syndrome at least once. My owner's manual however only says to go through the transmission prep sequence and leave the key in ACC. It doesn't mention anything about pulling a fuse much less which specific fuse.

So, anybody else got a '98? What do you do before/during towing? Had any dead battery problems? Installed a fuse bypass?

At this point I'm just looking for feedback on the fuse question. I know I can convert to a bigger battery or run an auxiliary power line if that's what it comes to.

Thanks!

I don't have a 98 but a 04 and no by-pass fuse. She has a charge wire and never had a dead battery when towing.

We have an 04 owners manual states if towing turn radio off and crank engine every 6-8 hrs. of towing. We had a long day, towing once 6 hrs. results dead battery. Now after 3-4 hrs. when we stop I crack car for 5 min. and have had no more problems.
