Do you need insurance for a car dolly? Also does a car dolly need a license plate

Thinking of buying a car dolly, does a car dolly require a license plate? Also do I need to add the car dolly to my RV insurance or is it automatically covered when it's hooked to the MH. Thanks

Each state is different, most states do not require a plate on a car dolly. Check your local state laws.
My insurance covers the dolly, my auto insurance covers the van. Again consult your insurance agent for actual coverage and limitations.

Depends on each State's rules.

I've come across three possible answers: No, Yes, Yes if not loaded with a current tagged auto. In VA, the answer is No.

Same applies to brakes, break-away brakes, lights.

In North Carolina, "No" on both those questions. No registration for a tow dolly and no insurance. I believe you are covered by whatever you are towing with.

Buy insurance to cover the theft of your dolly, just in case. Would be easy to lose it to thieves if you aren't careful.
