Does Anyone Tow A Ford Edge?

I was looking at a 2019 Ford Edge ST today. My nephew, who is an engineer at Ford Motor Company in Detroit, says this would be a good car for four wheel down towing.

Does anyone tow a Ford Edge? If so, please tell me about your experiences. I understand that if it's the 2.7 liter engine ST, it is relatively simple to prep for towing. Also, if you tow an Edge, what faceplate did you get for it? My tow system is a Blue Ox. Thanks in advance for any responses!

Store : Remco

Remco says it is towable 4 down just as your nephew said. Remco will also show you all the accessories.

I have a 2011 Lincoln MKX. I know it's older, but they've always been essentially the same car.
It is quite simple to tow. Trans in neutral, ignition set to auxiliary power, (I run a Roadmaster Brake Buddy). It runs off car battery, so I have a hot 12v wire from the coach 7 pin coupling to the car battery. I have a trailer brake box with battery removed acting as a voltage regulator (keeps 12 volts going to the car battery and not more).
For a base plate and tow bar I use the Roadmaster Night Hawk system. Blue Ox should work well also, I have one as well for another vehicle. I just went super heavy duty with Roadmaster.
Best luck, the Edge is a nice car.

Mine is older 2008 awd with the 3.5V6 std engine, and use a Blue Ox baseplate. Many thousands of miles, just run engine before starting out, then every few hours (200 miles range). Leave trans in neutral and key just on enough to unlock column, but not have ignition on.
I think new ones are a little more hassle with the keyless start button, but the manual should explain how to do it.

The Edge ST is a very cool car. I investigated it as a Toad and according to the owner's manual it's capable (I recommend looking at the manual). However the need to fit a pair of recumbent tadpole trikes in the vehicle ruled out the Edge and we bought an Explorer. Which is OK but not nearly so kool.

Tow a 2013 Edge AWD with Roadmaster Falcon, SMI Stay N Play Duo brake system. It does have a charge line for the car installed. No problems.

Only thing with this 2019 Edge ST comes from my being a child of the 50's. I love chrome wheels, grille etc. This one, and other makes as well these days, have a black grille, black wheels etc. To me they just look dirty all the time. Bummer!

Friend just started towing 2019 Edge ST - he did find out that he had to drive it for 1,000 miles before he started towing- so he couldn't start right away. Dave

Unfortunately when I purchased my 2019 Jeep the Edge was not tow-able. The ST wasn't in the line up and I now see it is the most expensive model available. I really wanted something other than the Jeep and Ford was my desire, though in the $35,000 price range. I am constrained by the weight I can tow so the larger Fords and Jeeps were not considered. Good luck and enjoy your new toad what every you decide on.

We looked at the Edge but passed after I had the salesman go through the steps necessary. When he got to removing a panel under the steering wheel and pulling a cord that drops down to release the parking brake, I decided I didnít want to crawl under there every time we hook up. Recommend having the salesperson follow each step to see if itís something you want to do. Passed on a 2019 GMC Arcadia for a similar reason.

Or read the procedure in the owners manual and don't trust any salesman's "procedure".

Agreed, just had the salesman trying to follow the manual. On the Edge he was trying to stand on his head under the steering wheel and on the Arcadia, he scratched the chrome trim around the shifter trying to remove it to put the shifter in neutral. So I passed on both.
